Dupont Hi Skor 700x ??

I have access to a couple barrels of Dupont Hi Skor 700x smokeless powder

Can you tell me a little about this powder? Is it basically only a 12ga powder?

Anyone out there love this stuff?

I used to use it for light .38special loads. A buddy uses it pretty much exclusively for his .38 loads now. He likes it a lot simply because you can stretch it pretty far in a .38.

Ya for the most part its used just in a 12ga reloading light target loads.

Powder used to come in many different siz containers, still does. I believe Ganderite buys it in much larger containers than makes sense to me as well....lol

I've used 700-X in rifles for years . . . for low velocity plinking loads with cast bullets in 30-30, 32 Spl., 8 x 57, 38-55 and 44-40. An early edition of the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook (1973) lists loads using 700-X in calibers from .22 Hornet all the way up to .444 Marlin. A pound goes a long way.

makes good pistol target loads with cast lead bullets.

I use it in 9mm with cast boolits frequently. Will probably try in in some rifle rounds with cast as well this summer.

Assuming this is the same as the current IMR 700x I use it for pistol load. Use a light .40 load for IPSC, works great.

The barrel of powder this guy has acess to must be old.
Though I could be wrong.

Depends I guess on what you class as old. I bought 4 new 12 pounders of 700X 9 years ago and they were still putting out the barrels then.
That is not old for unopened powder to me. Wish I had of bought more at the time

I was given over 30lbs, 3 metal barrels of Dupont and one canister of IMR. I gave it to a fellow shooter who loads 12ga as I had no use for it and didn't want to store 30lbs of powder in my home...

i use 700x for 45acp. it works the best i have found of any powders i have tried.

Dupont hasn't made powder for eons. That powder may or may not work. Depends on how it has been stored.
