durability of the Desert Eagle

I'm inclined to agree with milo. I have one in 50AE and it will turn heads like nothing else at the range! People have actually offered me $$$ just to go to the range and shoot it just so they say that they have shot a Desert Eagle. I've only put a little over 200 rounds through mine so far as I just got it this year.

I don't have one lick of problem with it functioning when I am shooting it but it can jam a lot when some of the others limp-wrist it I have noticed.
 
I've had my DE for years....Never had any break downs with it....
Had it out at the Virden match....Took 1st on the long range pistol stage:) But Ranked 8th in the over all match:redface:

Nice Eagle!!!

Here's a not-so-great pic. You can see the colour difference. It has the Hogue replacement grip.

I emailed Magnum Research for more info on it, as I had only ever seen single colour models before. They replied that it's a standard stainless steel frame with carbon steel slide/barrel. It's a beautiful gun in GREAT shape, and I can't WAIT to put some rounds through it!

Just about every person I've told that I have a DE wants to come shoot it at the range! :D

The biggest single issue with my DE is that the 50 AE ammo costs 50$ a box, for 20 rounds. The bullets are difficult to come by and although I reload, I have had a hard time finding any. Currently I have lots of once fired brass but at those prices, it is not a cheap hobby. I think I might have a line on some 300 grain bullets though now so if anyone has had similar problems finding projectiles let me know.

As per JR from the Shooting Edges previouspost they break continuously. Desert Eagle is the only thing worse than Norinco.... no amount of gunsmithing can save it.

I know JR's background and where his opinion is coming from, can you please add more detail on yours? What DE's did you own? What broke? how often?

Have you ever really owned one or even fired one for that matter?

It makes you realize just how much people really don't know about the subject matter when you see comments like this.

Just for the record, the IMI versions of the Mk VII and Mk VIII DE are outstanding weapons for what they were designed to do. If you think it was designed to shoot paper at 25 to 50 meters every other Sunday you would be incorrect. I have had the priviledge of being the range officer for several metallic silhouette competitions, and every gun on the line was a DE. These competitors swear by the DE, and have extensive experience in using the gun to the extremes. I myself just recently sold my DE, and not because I wanted to.

When you get good enough to hit 100% of your targets starting from 50 yds and going to 80 yds from an 8 inch barreled pistol then I might consider your opinion valid. In the meantime, I suggest that you actually get some experience with a particular type of firearm before commenting.
 
yes all guns break, but unless you failed to read the previous messages here, there are a number of us, the majority in fact, who have fired thousands of rounds through our DE's with zero problems of any kind.
 
TW are you running a public shooting facility per chance??
I believe that alot of the problems JR and TSE have encountered is more customer abuse problems than actually gun problems.
The DEs are well built, but with the Macho factor I know they are shot lots in these types of situations by people who are totally ignorant of how to shoot handguns, especially BIG ones. I have seen this on many occassions at rental gun shooting ranges. Decent ammo is not always supplied due to cost, and proper instruction of how to shoot a big semi auto is seldom offered and even more , almost never heeded.
These things all add up to a disasterous effect on the gun. I used to work in a shop that had full autos you could rent, I know Uzis and MP5s are damn near indestructable and very relaible but we encountered the same types of problems with them as well due to shooter stupidity.
I have 2 DEs and both have many thousands of rounds through them, flawlessly.
I still get sick to my stomach when some guys are looking at handguns, and do not know or care about the damage they inflict by "Hollywooding" a handgun.
Shooter stupidity should not be confused with gun quality
 
most of the problems with the DE are shooter error. proper technique is the number one thing. you cant hold it like a glock and fire away.

the only other real problems is ####ty ammo and aftermarket mags.
 
I have aquired a DE not too long ago. Some of the guys on the board has actually shot it. I find it to be a great pistol, but much too big of a bang for my taste and was thinking about selling it. But to tell the truth, I don't think my collection would be complete without it. But then again there is something else to be said about owning a $2000 piece of equipment that you have no use for. Trades anyone??!!
