Dutch Diemacos being replaced by PE90's

I have now heard this rumour from three reliable sources. Does anyone else hear similar rumours?

WTF?

I don't think it's a great idea to replace the Diemacos with the system that has the same calibre-but everything else is different, including the mags. They should get HK416 uppers instead to retrofit their Diemacos.....

How 'bout you show me the sources?

I wonder if anyone wants to do a drop test competiton between P-mag and SG 55X mags.

Like the Canadians, their C7s are too new to be ditched. They probably will embark on some mid-life refurbishing program like we do. Besides, there are many better things than the the SG55X series, which is too heavy to start with. THey have not won a single military trial in any configuration for general issue outside of the switzerland, and there is no reason why it would after almost 18 years out in the market

I suspect there'd be a few people who would feel nothing less than vindicated for paying $3000.00 for one of these rifles if the rumor is true.

Not that there is anything wrong with the PE90. In point of fact, I'll likely buy at least one variant to have one in my collection regardless. The CQB does look cool.

But on the contention that it is dramatically superior to a proven weapon system?

Bah...

Proven? You're telling me that the Stgw57, SG540, SG550 line of rifles haven't been proven?

The only armalites I have used semi-extensively have been C7s, in the original iron sighted configuration... Piece of crap, and I'm glad I never had to trust my life to one. I will be biased against any armalite forever as a result. My Pe90, on the other hand, has so far PROVEN to me that I cannot make it stop.

So, proof is in the eye of the owner. I have proven to myself that the Pe90 IS a dramatically superior weapon system.

Your mileage may vary.

Have a super day!

Interesting rant anyway...

See. I can bold text for emphasis too. Like you say, you've never had to trust your life to one, so it does look like mileage does indeed vary.

As part of an integrated weapons system, the AR series has been reportedly been doing exactly what it is intended to do.

Nuff said.

FWIW - my day's already lookin' up, thanks!

diched the M-14 after only 7 years and went with the 5.56 while NATO was still using 7.62. I'm not sure service life would be an issue if the mandate or politics had changed.

My friends in the Dutch army say the Diemaco/Colt Canada is being replaced too, likely for only parts of the army, and in specific roles. Read into that what you may. Word on the street in their army is that the successor has not yet been chosen.

BTW they say they love the Diemacos as do the Norgies and the Danes.

Hello All,

1. I didn't start the rumour, but I probably would have if I could have thought of it.

2. If you don't think that cost is a factor in purchasing for most units and Army's you don't have much experience. The Swiss Guns are about 3 times the cost to produce over an AR / Colt / Colt Canada product. I don't think they are 3 times better, so does it justify the cost?

3. For those of you that love the HK416 (I'm one of them, I'm dumb enough to buy anything that says HK on it, it's an illness), Check the weight between the SG551 and the HK416 with a 14.5" barrel. Greentips, you don't need to complain about the weight anymore, it's not fair comparing full size PE90's to M4's.

4. They should buy HK G36's, the most underated weapon's system in the world and they are cheap.

5. I sound like a broken record, The DI Ar's are not bad guns but there are better systems out there now so get over it everyone.

I heard from a friend of a friend that knows a guy....
That the Canadian Army will be going to Ruger Mini30 s (7.62x39). Apparently it has to do with the "new" piston craze and the ability to scrounge ammunition while in Afghanistan. Canada doesn't want it's soldiers to be the only ones without a piston rifle. Rumour has it the 7.62X39 mm is actually used as currency there, the same way we use pennies here.
It's part of the new Canadian Afghanistan financial initiative program. Even taking into account that they'll have to fire 200 percent more rounds to make the same hits, it's still considered more cost effective.
