E-Callers - Foxpro vs. Wildlife Technologies

Gents: I can't believe that people are arguing over callers. Honestly, only the inexperienced worry about gear - I have a bud who calls in coyotes by the ton (probably because he hunts so much more then me) but he uses an old rifle (colt-sauer?) in 30-06 that he inherited a long while back - it is missing it's mag and he has all of one mouth call (I gave it to him) and he has probably taken more coyotes this year then almost everyone on this board. All the callers listed above work, some are recordings of a dude calling others are sounds from live animals - Wow! considering that coyotes don't care/know if it is a recording/live animals this doesn't say much. As for "educating" coyotes, I think people who spout this stuff don't own a dog. The only way you are going to "educate" a coyote is if you live and run with it. One time a coyote comes into a caller doesn't equal education - consider how many times it takes a dog to learn the difference between noise and dinner and you will see that this argument makes no sense as the conditions for "educating" have to be identical every time. I have called a coyote into an e-caller, have it make me and run off - the coyote literally was sniffing the e-caller when I saw it. I left that stand and came back 2 hours later and setup identically, (even to the point where the e-caller was in the same spot) and used the same recorded calls and the same coyote came in. I know it was the same coyote because I knew where she was going to approach from and I took her.

There is no "magic bullet" for calling coyotes - nothing that is going to work every single time. No matter what advertising you see to say the contrary. I have hunted coyotes for over 11 years now and I have tried it all (E-Callers/Mouth Callers/decoys/etc) and for the first few years I never got a single coyote. I slowly (what can I say I am not the sharpest tool in the shed) learned that stand selection was the most important part of hunting coyotes then gadgets/calibre/binos/etc.

That's what we do here, we argue about petty things, minute details.....remember the 270 vs 280 thread.....If we could make money by splitting hairs we would be rich.

I barely know anything about calling coyotes...and wasnt' actually starting this thread to talk about calling coyotes but I guess that's what where kind of drifted into. I just wanted this caller for my own reasons...im pretty excited for Moose hunting next year. The guys testing this were bringing them in within 30 feet looking at the moose digging around the caller.
 
I am not above the petty bickering either but you guys are discussing some pretty high end e-callers and I can comfortably say they both probably work very well. I have a Johnny Stewart PM-4 caller (midrange caller) and though it is obviously a dude recording himself, it works quite well. I have called in coyotes with it but still break out the Sceery callers to mix it up when nothing is responding to the E-Caller. I checked out the link to the that Wildlife Tech and frankly it is a whole lot of hokum. Putting up nerdy specs on the differences in volume/output is pretty darn ghey - like I said earlier every company is going to sell their e-callers as the "ultimate" "perfect' whizbang. Guaranteed you put any of these callers in the wrong spot and you won't see diddly. Now get out and shoot some coyotes. I love seeing pics of coyotes all nicely killed.
 
I know I almost quit calling coyotes couple years ago when I started. Heard my cousin (lives in Alberta) going out and calling for 5 minutes and having doubles and triples almost running him over. Needless to say but it was quite differnet here....made about 75 stands the first winter with only 7 coyotes called (4 on one stand) and I only shot 2 all winter. I was pretty discouraged.
 
First impressions of the WT caller is that its ruggedly build..very simple. I could not put more than a couple levels of volume in the house because my ear drums wanted to split....very loud . The calls are unbelievably clear....the put together a great call list based on what I told them I wanted to hunt .

Finally got out with the new caller yesterday. Found fresh tracks about 1 km into a logging side road, after calling for awhile I drove farther up the road following the tracks (cant see very far because of the logs piled on both sides of the road) and seen his tail end around a corner (he was backtracking back to me and then turned around because I stopped calling....short attention span) He was quite nonchanlant about the whole deal....no fear of anything.

I Finally got a better look on a longer stretch (I was starting to wonder if he was someone's half breed pet because of his behavior) put the caller on the truck and stopped him in his tracks with some howls...he sat there just staring wondering what I was. I then started with the snowshoe hare call and a large horned howl landed 50 yards to my left. I follow the wolf around another corner and start calling him on another intersection. I test some coyote calls...territorial / aggressive then more alpha male wolf howls and he starts howling back and growling. After another 5 minutes I see some movement over the hill behind him and I notice he has a friend coming in .

I was finally was satisfied in following them back to the end of the road and into the tree line. These guys can live another day because I hadnt' bought any 2009 wolf seals (not sure if I would of got the caller in time). Next time I go out in that cut Im hoping to bring something back.

Sure seems to be no lack of wolves anywhere that's for sure.
