I have a Sportdog 1825 that has served me well on nearly daily use when one of the the collars stopped receiving beyond about 20 feet. The collar is about 6 years old so it owes me nothing but I remembered another collar had done the same thing after about 7 years. I took the collar apart and upon close examination noticed that the ferrite antenna lead had broken off at the board . I took it to a local electronics repair and for the princely sum of $10 he microsoldered the leads and it now functions out to more than 1 km.
Being a non-repentant tinkerer I took my older 10 year old collar apart and noticed the same breakage. With a good deal of care and some swearite I got the leads reattached myself and it also now works out to more than a km. To be fair both collars failed after a considerable time on two of the ramiest dogs I ever owned that firmly adhered to the principle that busting through stuff is far more fun than going over or around . Hope this helps anyone who encountered the same issue.

Thanks for the heads up! I have the same collar and its good to know that if it fails it may be an easy fix. Might I ask, have you ever had to replace your batteries in either the remote or collar?

Nope they seem to last a long time, I think not using them and letting them die is harder on them then keeping them charged up and used.
