Not a lot of history on the EAL and I can understand current day values since there were approximately 4000 produced for the civilian market and another 2000 for military and Gov't services. Many of the 2000 have been destroyed and should be very collectible.
Joe Salter's EAL, Lot #8021, can still be viewed on his site. It is a very good example of the civilian EAL. A couple of things that I noticed about the rifle make it unique. The barrel is marked "CA" and "CMK4"...the "CA" is Canadian Arsenals which I've seen on all EAL's however the "CMK4" I have not. This designation is for the 6 groove right hand twist made in 1958. EAL have quite a variance in barrels...I've seen 2, 5 and now my first 6 groove. The other thing that does not show up much is the thumb cut on the left side of the receiver. Most don't have the thumb cut as the receivers were generally unfinished when they were sold to EAL. HAS ANYONE ELSE GOT THIS FEATURE ON THERE EAL? I HAVE SEEN ONE OTHER!!! The last thing I noticed about the rifle is the rear sight...marked 300/600....always been told these were remarked 200/400...never have seen any. ANYBODY GOT A PICTURE TO POST?
There are other variations out there....have been told some are scoped with either Parker Hale or Williams side mounts and TASCO scopes. ANY PIC'S OF THESE?
This thread could be a great resource for Collectors....all comments greatly appreciated.
