Anyone else have one of these odd rifles? I took some pics of mine on the weekend (lots more pics and info at MKL). Mine is a military model that came with a Weaver 60-B in an Echo mount. I've been told that this might have been a standard practice, does anyone else have an EAL thats been drilled & tapped like mine? Post 'em if you got 'em :D

I have seen another drilled exactly like yours, and yes, I have heard the rumour that they were issued this way.

I have a civi pattern version, and the peep rocks!

I sus^pect Cantom may have a few dozens? :D

No, not at all. I've tried to locate a military without success and that includes this one...:(:runaway:

Interesting to note that the forend is solid at the back. I recently saw pics of Bearhunter's rifle, it looked like EAL had glued blocks in to fill the tie strap holes in but this one is made this way. Nice wood.

I'd like to see it with the scope and mount on it! That would be the first pics I've seen of one with them...I have a big collection of EAL pics but none with the scope they installed in the military. Those look like roll pins sticking out there, for dowel/locating I presume?

They are indeed roll pins for locating. One interesting note is that I picked up a Compac Super scope at Epps which also had an Echo mount that I could almost stick right on my EAL, the major differences being that is was a 2-piece mount, instead of the 3-piece mine came with, and that it had rivets where mine had roll pins. Anyway more pics, sorry none with the scope mounted on the gun.

Hey, I just realized...no ejector screw on that rifle! Did they use the same ejector hole for a scope bolt? Wonder how well it ejects?
I have read that much of the ejection of empty shells is actually done by the side of the receiver...I think only loaded rounds actually hit the screw....is one of the scope base bolts longer?

The original base for the drilled and taped EAL's is a Parker Hale base. The number escapes me at the moment. They were also issued with TASCO scopes. YES ...TASCO. The lifetime guarantee was the best in the world at that time. Who said our "gummamint" is stupid !!!!! They just act that way.
I'll post a picture of a one with the TASCO scope later today.
