EAL Lee Enfield

So, yes it appears to be a Canadian driver's license. Its etched on the trigger guard also. If you look at it in the right light it used to say "303 cal" . I'll take more pics

7 digits - it's probably a BC drivers license, most of the other provinces use godawful chains of numbers and letters. The zero at the beginning indicates someone who'd be in their 70's or 80's today - BCDL's are sequential, and they've just started to re-issue the low numbers3 and 4 zeros at the beginning.

The thing I never got with the EAL's was what they called the "military model" had sporting sights and a 5 round mag. while the "commercial model" had military sights and 10 round mag. ??

Yes indeed...a lot of people have commented on that.

But...I've seen a lot of the earlier rifles with the 10 round mag and 200/400 military rear mount flip sight drilled for the PH mount the military used.

I suspect the military used both types but really have no idea. There is not a lot of info out there about EAL's and their users.

But, as Wheaty said in his article, undeniably the 6000 and up rifles were a military contract, for RCAF survival rifles etc.

If this picture is of the buttstock sling swivel, on the Bishop stock...someone added this buttstock on after EAL built the rifle, that is for sure.

EAL's inletting for the swivels was always perfect. And, they didn't use the earlier milled swivels, it was always the later stamped ones.

I also doubt that they would have used a Bishop stock. Every EAL I've ever seen had a Jostams pad on it. (as the shorter, lighter rifles would tend to kick more)

Got any full length pics?

I'm pretty shocked these have jumped all of a sudden in value. The one on joe salter is ridiculously priced lol, They are a nice .303 but anything over 1000$ is just plain crazy especially with a name like essential agency LTD, hell even 500$ is quite a stretch!
It's barely a sporter when comparing it to BSA, Parker-hale, and Churchill's.
I still would love one as they do look really handy and lightweight :)

i really, really like this rifle just the way it is. ive had a few 303's, jungle carbine, anda sporter no1 from 1914. i like this one the best. maybe add a parker hale 5 round mag... meh.
is there a way to look up the drivers licence #

I know this is a super old post, but i have an old lee Enfield no4 mk1 i got when my grandpa passed. It has some numbers engraved in it as well. Upon further investigation, it is my grandpa's S.I.N. number. He put it on his rifle for identification purposes. Talking to a couple other older folk, this was a fairly common trend in the 50's-70's.

Common enough...but not entirely sure why the s/n wasn't enough?
