Digit with nonstandard rear sight. Ramp isn’t missing. It has up and down slider built in with screw.

Anybody know what’s going on here.

Nothing prototype about that. The rear sight is a marbles and it’s missing the elevator. The elevators in these don’t require a centre slot like a Winchester sight has.

Thank you for the info on this. I can’t seem to find a picture of the elevator - do you know where or what it would look like?

There were three distinct types of EAL rifles. The first Type A was like yours. Had modified military butt stock and modified military forend to sporter style. I owned a couple that had the original no.4 battle sight peep. With the 300/600 lined out and remembered 200/400, no rear sight on barrel( yours may have had dovetail and barrel sight added). Type B had purpose built pistol grip butt stock and purpose built sporter style forend, no.4 battle sight. Both type A and B had standard 10 round mags.
Type C had same purpose built sporter stocks, a two leaf barrel sight mounted in a dovetail ahead of the knoxform. These had a five round mag almost flush with the bottom of the rifle. No battle aperture sight on these. ALL three had Jostam Anti flinch recoil pads fitted.
All had the same front sight, blade in dovetail slot with locking screw. All had 21.5 inch barrels.
From what I can learn all three were used by RCAF as survival rifles on aircraft. Some of all three types were sold commercially. Began to appear commercially 1949-1950.
Type A numbered a little over 1000. Highest number I've seen is 1031 whichi owned at one time. Type B went up into the 4000's, not sure how high. Many of the Type C were 5000 to 6000 odd.
Actions were military No.4 Lee Enfield with steel removed for lightening. Not a lot of info out there but more comes to light with increased interest.
