Was given this today when the in-laws were cleaning out the attic, they didn’t have much info on it other then it was passed down to them by a family friend who has since passed away.
It’s going to make a great show piece in my house.
Can’t wait to start researching the markings to find out what it is. I do see 1 marking of “1918”
Anyone have anything similar?
I put a 5.56 and 50 BMG next to it for size comparison.

Funny, one of my bullet molds has exactly the same shape, profile,FP nose and driving bands in same place when fitted into 308.

Design based on artillery projectile?

The projectile is it a Hollow or solid ?it kinda looks like the fuze is missing/removed . Any markings on it ? ( H,E,AP) the barrel bands , steel ,brass ,copper ? The base of it , is it solid or is there machining ? As others have commented it looks to be British artillery ( and not a navy case , no Anchor Stamp ).

I think everyone here is right it does really look like a 47x376r Hotchkiss, the projectile is hollow and threaded both ends, there is a faint marking on it as you can see below but not sure what it means.
