So I picked up a pretty tidy July 89' Gen 2 a week or so ago with all its original accoutrements. This particular model has the black Gen 1 internals and uncaptured recoil spring. When I called Glock with the serial number in order to get the production date, the guy on the phone said that if I sent them the gun, Glock would do a complementary update to all the parts. Thing is, the gun runs fine...and even though it would be nice to have it updated, I also think it would be kinda neat to keep it original. I asked if they would be willing to just send me the parts so I could install them myself if I felt the need for them in the future, but no dice....they require that the update be carried out by a Glock Armorer.....Bah!

Not tough to swap out the parts with cheap, widely available parts - but why, Gen 2 guns are pretty rock solid, I'd just run it. Or you could pull the originals and put current ones in to absorb any wear.

Yeah.....I've decided to leave it alone. I did a total disassembly of the gun, and other than a little powder residue, it cleaned up perfectly. Even after years of use, the internals still look like new. I gave it a 25 cent trigger job with a little Flitz, and now it runs better than my Gen 4. I love this thing!

I heard the update parts are free if done by an authorized aGlock armorer, Do you know a place (Glock armorer) in Canada who's willing to do this job ?

.

I have a Glock 19 gen 2 manufactured April 89. It is a stock pistol with all the original parts 5.5 trigger. It is the smoothest shooting pistol and most accurate that I have. I would never let anybody alter this pistol. For me the problem with the free upgrade is, not only must the Glock armorer replace the parts, but from what I have read, Glock will keep the original parts.
