Hi Guys,

I am seeking to get some value estimates on a few rifles that I have a chance to buy..here goes:

1. All matching very early swedish mauser made by Carl Gustoff. I am not sure of the model but it is WWI or pre vintage. the wood is in great shape, the numbers are all matching and its is well oiled with no rust.

2. An all matching full wood in great shape 43 mauser (german) these are WWI or pre vintage. The wood is in great shape, the numbers are all matching and its is well oiled with no rust.

3. An all matching full wood in great shape French Lebel rifle, not sure of the model. The wood is in great shape, the numbers are all matching and its is well oiled with no rust.

Can someone give me ballpark figures on their value? I know it is hard to do this without pics, or even knowing the exact models of some, but I was hoping for a ballpark figures to help me decide wether ot not to buy them.

Cheers
Jason

It sounds like you are describing a M196 Swedish Mauser. It should have a 291/2 inch barrel, with a straight bolt handle.

As to value, it is hard to say. You say the numbers all match, but have you checked them all? The Swedes literally numbered pretty much every part. The bolt assembly has several all on its own.

I would hazard a guess that if the numbers match, wood is great (not sanded or refinished) and the bore is good, $200-$400. Sorry, it's a big range, but more info would certainly narrow it down.

By Mauser 43, it would depend if it's a Gew71 or a Gew71/84. The former is "antique" in Canada, the latter not, so that is also a factor. Say, $300-1200 depending on make, model and condition.

Is the French rifle really a Lebel, or a Berthier? If a Lebel, is it an 1886, or an 1886/93? which maker? St. Etienne, Chatellerault, or Tulle? Tulle is worth the least. What's the condition? Is it a refurb or not? For some reason I don't understand these are actually rather expensive rifles in Canada right now. Could be anywhere from $200 to $1000 depending upon many factors.

pics and better descriptions would help alot.

Swedes are NOT expensive guns. (yet). They were imported in great quantity in the 80's and 90's so lots are still floating around in mint shape :)
