picked this up for 375 a while back from a member here. its a dou 1942 k98. its an east german rework (crown , german eagle and 1001 stamped). every thing matches but the floor plate/ trigger guard and the silver coloured safety part wich is stamped 47 on top. it also has 47 electro penciled on the back of that part. one thing im really not sure about is the zf41 rail. could this be a fake? it has the red storage grease down in the crevice where the rail is attached to the rear sight. but i have heard of really good fakes. also the rear sight has the NEA waffenampt from what i can tell this and the .dou indicates it was made in czechoslovakia. also the only marking on the stock is in the sling slot stamped k9. the bayonet is a 42 "c" with a non matching sheath payed 100 at a gun show for it. any experts want to chime in? regardless i love this rifle would just like some info.

Not necessarily a "fake" rail, but more likely a east german made gun. The stock has the proper cutout, and looks to be done the correct way, not bubba. Its out of the realm of bubba imho, as bubba would have no use for a zf41 scope, lol
Obviously I've seen this rifle in hand. Its the product of official refurbishment.

Hows it shoot?

As far as the receiver goes, it isnt super common, its right after the switch from G24t receiver coding.

just had a better look at your pictures and am very confident that it is a made up mount. not original. if you have a look at it you will see the rail is soldered on ,or glued. these were very common about 20 years ago. as most vets bought back the scopes with out the mount.

Probably an original zf-41 rail base placed on a post war refurb.

Original zf-41 rails were an intrinsic part of the rear sight platform and sweated onto the barrel.

More than likely this is one of these original rear sight platforms. I saw this rifle before it was flipped (within the last year). The buyer who beat me purchased it with a scope/mount and sold the scope/mount for the original purchase price of the rifle on the K98Kforum. So if he sold the rifle for close to $400, he made $400, very entrepreneurial.

Now there are fake zf-41 rails that are simply seated into the rear site, just below the site leaf. There will be a small gap between the rail and the rear site base (not intrinsic to the rear site base). Law falsely stated that these were Waffen Meister replacement mounts in his K98K book on Snipers. We now know that this style of mounts are European knock offs and not original kit. Some even had very authentic looking Waffen Amts (this is probably what tricked Law). You can currently purchase these mounts on Numrich or Sarco.

Its been on there a long time, that much is sure.

I never sold the scope for what I first asked agentcq. It was missing all of the internal and adjustment screws.......Just barely was able to make it work, traded it to my buddy (mauser99) in the US, for a helmet. I guess he had someone in mind for the mount and some parts.
