East german rework k98/ zf41 rail authenticity

Well, CanadianAR...maybe I was just jealous...I was thinking about parting out the rifle as well and you just beat me to it...lol. Still a helmet (especially looking at Canadian helmet prices) and a few hun isn't a bad deal on your end. Two horse traders we are.

As per mounts.

Below Repro mount from Accumark - This is the style Law thought was a Waffen Meister version, not so...

Below is what a real mount should look like (there were at least two authentic styles of rails). However, believe it or not, the mount below is a reproduction.

The Czechs were known for recycling parts. I know of a few Czech K98's that used parts from authentic snipers, including my 3 hole bcd 4 (LSR) found with VOPO sunburt and all matching from Czech refurb.

anyone could have cut out the stock they had 67 years to do it. the rounded front on the rail, slash cut for the lock, and cut for the rollers going the full length are all incorrect . if you remove the stock and clean the grease you should see wear the rail is soldered on to the sight base sleeve.

This is what they should look like.

They didn't make them from scratch with their own codes, aka tgf, but they did refurbish them.
Refurbed snipers of other types are known as well.

They is no way to really verify either way. Its refurbed for east germany, that much can be proven by the markings. Everything else is just conjecture.

darn was hoping it was the real deal. would the east germans make zf41 specific rifles out of scraps? it has the zf41 stock.

No offense, but there's no way I would have sold you
A legit, even reworked zf41 k98 for $375. Lol.

The rear sight base and rail were one piece on german made zf41s.

Really??

I never misrepresented the rifle.
I plainly listed that it was an East German refurb, with refurb numbering.
I also sold it below RC pricing. I was upfront about what it was. Also the $375 price should have told you it was not an original german sniper. RC rifles with the rail go for 3 times that much.

Some people...

No one ever mentioned misrepresentation in the sellers add although it was listed as an east german zf41. I just think its funny you came in here claiming you didnt know what it was, then finally admitted that you knew the whole time. Your only destroying your credibility.

For $375 you really can't complain, but some people are never satisfied it seems. It's not worth getting Buyers Remorse long after you bought it (4 months) as you could pay this price today:

just looked at the frontier firearms site they have 7 or 8 RC mausers on there now the price is astounding from 659.95 and as high as. 849.95,tax 110 plus 35 to ship for a total of 994.95 now thats inflation or is it wishful thinking

At the end of the day you got a good deal and paid about 1/3 of the price of a RC.

I don't know what it is. Lol. In my opinion, its an east german made sniper. Its not original german as its a dou and a two piece base, but no one can say for sure when or where the rail was installed.
The wood cut looks correct, the stain matches the rest of the stock, and it was done nicely, which would indicate to me, being done at refurbistment.

I remember when CanadianAR was selling this and it was made very clear that it was an EG refurb and sold at a more than fair price. For 375 the buyer got a heck of a deal. Regular EG refurbs without the mount sell between 400 and 600.

Put a repro scope and mount on it and shoot it!

when did i say i was ripped off on the price?

Any K98k for less than $400 in Canada is a good deal. No, it isn't original but so what. If you could find a repro mount and scope it would be a real converstion piece at the range and you could recoup your investment anytime.

Here's an MKL entry of an original piece, complete with a detailed 239 pic photo montage and lots of close ups of mounts etc...

1942 Code AR K98k-ZF41 (Karabiner 98) Rifle - Serial #1636khttp://www.milsurps.com/content.php...8)-Rifle-(Mfg-by-Mauser-Werke-AG-Borsigwalde)
(Mfg by Mauser Werke AG, Borsigwalde)

Hope that helps... :)

By the way, seems like a pretty good price. I agree with others and you should find a ZF41 scope to shoot with her. I think I saw Peter Laidler offering one of his, but you should check with him.

Regards,
Doug
