Good Afternoon,

I am looking for some knowledge on values of some M40 / M42 Helmets. I am in Germany and have made friends with a local collector. As you can imagine WW2 collecting is kind of frowned upon here. Which actually makes most things pretty cheap. He is hooked up a couple of individuals who metal detect battle fields on the eastern front (inside Germany, around Berlin) And I have already gotten a decent 'Ground Found' (this is what they call it here) M40. He has a few more as iam showing here, some with decal still visible. All of these came off battlefields and I will have the locations that they have been found. There are no liners just the steel. I am going to get a deal, I just need to know what they are worth at home.

What do you think?

I am going to get them all. I have on already that I paid 50 Euro for, im going to get them all for about 200 Euro or so, probably less. I have gotten some really unique stuff already, but helmets are easier to display. I am just curoius what the market is for this type of stuff at home right now

There is actually a website "fake German helmets" .com...not exactly sure. I used it to evaluate a helmet I have. Try it. if youcan't find it, let me know...I will search.
Remember, some countries (Poland for one) don't allow war relics to be sent out of the country...not sure about Germany.

try this. http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/steel-helmets/fake-german-steel-helmets-2104/

Awesome, if we could relic hunt for items like that over here I would already have a metal detector. I follow a couple German guys on Instagram that relic hunt and take part in recovery of remains of fallen soldiers on the eastern front regularly. Regardless of what side a soldier fought on its nice to know they are coming home one way or another.

The holes above the decals are actually just vents. The other holes are for the liner band.

Value for these are relatively low here.

For value check relic helmet on ebay and that will give you an idea of what they go for in different conditions.

A box of Bondo, 50 yards of sand paper, some Canadian Tire Spray Paint, good as new!

there are a few bullet holes, but most are rivet holes from the suspension i believe, but i'm far far away from being a helmet expert. I think one of those is a WW1 pattern that had the lugs on it for a "sniper shield" or sentry re-enforcement plate.....experts feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.
