G'day,

A friend of mine has a Ruger Mark II, and finds disassemble / reassemble to be too challenging. He would like to get another rimfire, that is more simple to clean. He has no problems with his 9mm S&W.

I have no experience with any other type of pistol other than the Ruger - Can you folks with greater experience suggest a .22 that might be simple to take apart, like a centrefire service pistol?

Thanks in advance,

Neal

anything by beretta- on the neos, you push in a button and turn a wheel- the 948, you remove the mag, and slide the barrel off

Semi Auto - S&W 41

Revolver - Any?

One reason I personally wont own a ruger mk series or browning buckmark is due to the dis assembly / reassembly. And when compared to something like the 41 or even the newer sigs the time differences to strip them down are huge.

The Ruger is only difficult the FIRST time you reassemble. After much swearing, when you finally figure out the dothingy has to go in the whatchamacallit... you will remember the rest of your natual life.

I have a Browning Buck Mark. It is accurate and reliable, but it too is a hassle to disassemble compared to other handguns I have. And the barrel can't be cleaned from the breach end without doing more than the standard stripping.

Any of the much more expensive guns that are based off center fire guns will be easier. Tanfoglio makes a Force22 that is a nice gun and is easy to strip. The CZ Kadet has already been mentioned. Then there's the Sig 22(something) .22. But avoid the Mosquito unless he's willing to play with finding the right ammo an possibly getting some tuning done to the gun. There's also a Walther .22 but it's too ugly for words.... :D

Be sure to tell him that ALL of these options are up around double the price of most models of Ruger. THAT might make him stop and consider that learning a simple technique for re-assembling the Ruger isn't all that hard an option. As Griffoneur said it's only hard the first couple or three times. The clever and motivated folks learn during these first few times. But it seems like these days far too many are not willing to actually learn anything and expect instant gratification.

As t-star mentioned, the Neos is very easy to disassemble.

Also, I knew someone who had a Hi Standard Sport King at one time, and I couldn't believe how quickly it could be taken down and reassembled.

guess I'm a zombie then. 'Cause every now and then I feel like smashing the bloody pistol down to tiny bits.

It's psycologically difficult to justify a $500 conversion kit if one can buy a 9mm gun for same or almost same money or a complete .22lr gun.
The beauty of CZ Kadet kit is in not having to register it, shooting .22lr using exact same frame AND grip AND trigger as 9mm or .40S&W and how easy it is to maintain and how accurate it is and not picky with ammo.

I am sure this is a great pistol but I looked at the video i am now turned off from buying a ruger .22 pistol.

As sillymike pointed out, the margolin is very simple to take down and affordable to buy.

In addition, high standards and colts (such as the woodsman series) are just as easy.

I am however with the learn to clean your gun crowd - it gets easier each time. Do it once a week for 3 weeks and it will help you to remember. Check out some youtube videos so that other guys can show you the tricks. I myself would not sell/trade such a pistol for the sole purpose of getting something that is easier to field strip.
