Thanks for the thoughts, folks. I'm not saying I agree with my friend, but will advise him of your suggestions.
In the mean time, I'll keep trying to figure out my MkIII 22/45, which is way more convoluted than my old MkII used to be! I get it apart every time with no problem, but end up needing the manual for reassembly half the time(!).
And on a personal opinion note, I just DON'T UNDERSTAND those who suggest a .22 either never, or rarely, needs cleaning? You are dealing with a semi-auitomatic firearm that uses relatively low powered ammunition, in blow back (mostly), which spews unburned powder flakes and projectile wax all over itself... I would suggest that a semi .22 needs MORE cleaning than a centrefire pistol.
