Eating Crow

Eating crow

The term"Having to eat crow "is a falconry term originally I believe. If the falcon kills a crow or rook and is allowed to eat it they will often spit it back up, perhaps it's taste or texture. As a falconer my experience is mainly with hawks not falcons and they seem to have no problems. I do know from keeping crows for training hawks to hunt them that they are full of parasites even as babies and I had to de-worm them with Ivomec to prevent my birds from contracting them. Probably not what you wanted to hear but for what it's worth?

I read a story awhile back, from the early days of our nation....some Europeons were following the Railroad being built and food was scarce so they shot a Turkey buzzard and a family ate it and 2 died and the rest were very sick and lucky not to have died. Don't know if this story is true or not.

Gulls are exempt from hunting because theyre coverd by the MBCA of '94(migratory birds conservation act).
Heres the website if you have the time to look through it.

Honestly I dont think theres a person in the world (other than PETA) who would call the fish cops on you for shooting one of these.

I would say not true.I hunted with a fella who ate buzzard and he and his hungry buddies are still kickin today. He said it was as tough as nails and not so good.

Why anyone would eat one is beyond me.Turkey buzzards have no natural enemies as they smell of vomit.

Not true. I've eaten just about everything that walks, swims or crawls (including crow, raven and cormorant). The only poisonous meats in North America are the livers of certain arctic seals and polar bears. Even absolutely putrid stinking rotten meat swarming with maggots is safe to eat when cooked thoroughly.

I would eat a crow in a heartbeat but around here by the time they really start flocking up, duck season opens and I'd rather eat them.
