Ebay Scope

I found a 4.5-14x40 Mil-Dot Mk4 M1 on ebay for $210 with 3 days left. Is it worth it to buy a scope on ebay, or is it better to go new? With something like this I think I'd rather go new.

I also found a scope I am interested on ebay. Whats the gunnutz experiances bringing them across the border lately. I have brought one up with out any problems before(quite a while back), but I have also heard some real horror stories lately :eek:. Nightmares in my mind :puke:

I know it can be done and has, I have seen it first hand. But now that I am about to spend my hard earned cash and heard these stories, I am kind of wondering if I should just buy new :confused:.

If it wasnt expensive, I would not worry about it at all. Maybe Mr. Bartel can answer this one :confused:
 
Scopes coming out of the U.S. require U.S export permits.

You need to get a Canadian import permit in order for the seller to obtain the U.S. export permit.

Most E-Bay sellers do not bother with the permits, and therefore can end up in a world of trouble with the U.S. authorities.Your scope can be seized on the U.S. side (and you will lose it and your money), and your name can be flagged by the U.S .authorities which may bring closer scrutiny on future purchases.

If you are posting about U.S .purchases on CGN, the policy is that both countries import/export laws MUST be followed, or don't both posting.

From what I've learned about E-Bay, the price 3 days before the end of auction (or one hour) may be very different than the one at closing.

I know how ebay works, that wasnt the question. Just really wanted to know about cross the border shipping these days with scopes.
 
most of the times they do not ship it from US , so SKBY can relax on your comment.
They ship them directly from China.
There are also a handful of Canadian dealers on those scopes.
I assume that you're not hoping for a Leupold, Correct?
even the canadian dealers have their scopes shipped from China (with love) to you, if thay don't happen to stock that particular item.
shipping in 5-7 business days, I gather, no?
 
I also know how ebay works, I've used it a lot, I'm just wondering if it's a good idea or not.
I didn't know how the import/export laws worked, no snide comments are necessary.

Sorry for the hijack Rohann. I just thought shipping across the border might be worth talking about as I am interested in maybe doing the same thing. Your post just happened to come up at the right time :D
 
Some individuals may ship to Canada only because they are not familiar with the laws. Most business wont ship certain types of scopes especially mil-dot types. They are considered as paramilitary equipment and in the eyes of the US Feds are not allowed for export:mad: . Stupid, I know, but its their laws not ours.. Ultimately the decision is yours as to whether u want to take the risk or not.

I dont know about Rohann, but luckily I just found what I wanted locally. So I wont be wasting my time or money.

crazy davey: Oh don't worry about it, you didn't hijack it. I was just referring to the "follow the export rules or don't post" comment. I think I'll just end up buying locally though, it isn't worth the risk.

A mk IV for $210?? Are you sure its not a cheap knock off??? Buyer beware!! If it sounds too good to be true....

Just making sure that the CGN policy is understood.

It seems most people haven't read the forum rules/policies and keep posting about how they get items from the U.S. without proper paperwork.

imarco: That was just the bid at the time I looked at it; there had been 22 bids so far and there was 3 days left (gone up to $293 and 2 days left).

SKBY: Sorry, I was not aware of how the import/export rules work, was just wondering if the purchase would be a good idea and how easy it would be to get it here.

Here is the response I finally got from the person on ebay I was thinking of doing buisness with.

Global priority would be $11.50 that is with no insurance, which would be about $2.00 extra. Thank you for your patience.

Obviously not many people know the actual laws. I know it would probably make it just fine, but I am not willing to take the chance.
 
It's just not something worth risking. I'd rather pay $1200 on top of a $200 scope and know that it's exactly what I'm looking for and don't have to worry about it, than pay over $200 for something I may not even want.

What a stupid policy.....firearms optics require permits. Unreal. I have purchased on ebay a few scopes/red dots. the ones from the US were sometime ago though, no problems. The most recent was a POSP, but was actually shipped from Russia, though seller was US.
