check this out guys
custom fast twist barrel, oversize gas block and accurizing job
barrel is .875 at its thinnest 25" long
also targets shot aug 21st with same gun

PIC_0322.jpg

black hills averaged .510 with one flyer, federal is .600 no flyers but only three shots and raug was under .500 for the first three then i dont know what happened to the other two.
Shows lots of promise for some decent handloads and a good bag technique as the monopods a bit wiggly which may account for the flyers that jumped out.

What barrel did you use, and who smithed it? How much room is there between the block, and the upper BTW?

One thing that will probably help to sort out the fliers is to shoot more rounds and be sure that they are fliers.

The Trouble With 3-Shot Groups

I found the second link I was looking for BTW:

Not black and green, but speaks a little to what is missing from small round groups, especially those that do not account for both accuracy and precision.

Sweet looking XCR but man she looks like a beast. Sounds like it will be a varmints worst nightmare once the project is completed.

Keep us updated on additional groups and provide some load data.

Cheers

I got groups like that with mine in stock configuration. I posted my targets and load info. I must have lucked out and got a good shooting xcr
Very nice looking rifle though!!

Cheers!!

yes thats great but this is all factory ammo not handloads so i expect better results with a little load development

Shows promise, but that sample with the 'flyers' doesn't really prove anything. You need to do a large sample of 5 round groups with each ammunition at least and average that. Only remove flyers that you called at the shot due to operator error.

10 rd groups, flyers unless immediately called shooter error are not.

FYI I've got some 11.5" SR16's that shoot 1/2" at 100 with 70gr Black Hills, so a 25" tube with some questionable groups is not exactly something to go shouting from the rooftops...

Given that this particular rifle is manufactured with slightly wider tolerances to accomodate quick change barrels in the field. I think there is potential for improvement,
which is the objective of this project and I have no doubt that to demonstrate the accuracy of the finished project, Ian will post some 10 round groups. I think he indicated that the groups he initally posted were preliminary in nature.

There is merit in the use of 10 round groups versus 5. Don't even consider 3 round groups!

I can totally agree with that, but it's a start and if people are willing to try to make something better in the shooting community, life is good. If they fall on their faces, at least they tried.

Yeah I think your half way there. I've seen range reports where accuracy is about the same with a stock XCR. I think more would have to be done to support your claim. I hope it works out for you.

In the end if you cannot acheive .25 MOA, I would then have to say what you've spent is a big waste. But I'll wait and see until I give my final opinion.

I like accuracy and if I could get .5MOA with a non restricted .223 semi auto black rifle that takes 10 round mags, gopher city here I come. I'll bring my Cooper 17FB for the lulls when the barrel is cooling.

Sweet looking XCR
Are these 100m groups ?
If so I dont think they any different from a stock xcr
Maybe it will perform with reloads
This modification brings the xcr cost up to how much ?
