EDMONTON, AB M14 Clinic, Sat 08 Nov- Register here!

Sorry I've been a bit busy of late. I posted some stuff earlier about the range

I'm going to do up a summary of what's what here in the next few days with what I am bringing and descriptions of the facilities that are avaliable to us

Quickly

It will be both in and outdoors. Heavy work welding etc outside in a covered quonset that I am working on heating.

No lunch facilities i am thinking of sending the wife for pizza or something if everyone is interested.

Sam

Thanks for the pizza idea Sosa. I'd be more than willing to kik in some bucks for my share of the meal.

Will there be a greasing tool at the clinic to give an initial lubing to the critical parts?
And where can one be purchased? (for my own use)

That almost doesn't sound right...

Hey Rick, your fingers don't work anymore? Just kidding what kinda tool you looking for? That syringe thing Hungry used to talk about,or for greasing the bolt roller etc? And I'll kick in some cash (was gonna say dough) for lunch. One less thing to worry about when you come from afar (yes thats in BC)

Gents:

I did the Calgary clinic last year, so I'm pretty much up-to-speed on the basic stuff. This frees me up to a degree for helping out where I can during the morning. Please PM me with any duties I might perform to ensure smooth operation of the course.

My to-do list:
1) bed the rifle
2) unitize gas system
3) drill and liberate the Chinese flash hider
4) If I get lucky, chop the rifle, which would pretty much negate removing the flash hider...

Everything else is gravy. I'll bring my Dremel tool and bits, my M14 tools (if I can remember where the hell I put 'em) and a small electric heater I have.

How else can I help? Anyone wanna carpool from the People's Republic of Old Strathconastan?

Dan

Lol Milwright..I read that after I typed it and thought, "Uh oh..that DEFINATELY looks wrong" :D

Yes, its the syringe I guess I need. Whats the best grease to use? White lithium? Axle grease?

Rick65Cat:

I've got a dozen or so, grease syringes for sale: killer price of $ 2.00 a piece. ANY grease will do the job! I prefer the Cambodian Tire Wheel Bearing grease for $ 3.00 a large tube. Even works for snowmobiles (read: works in cold weather) , and that's a plus for me!

They can be purchased as "Glue Syringes" from any Lee Valley Tools shop or catalog!

Cheers,
Barney

Pardon the question, who's teaching this clinic? What certifications/quailifications does he have?

Hungry here: I'm not a gunsmith, but I teach the gunsmiths. I'm not a sniper, but I've won a bunch of gold medals at the National Sniper Matches, I'm not an armorer, but I've built many AR's and M1A's that have podiumed several times. I'm a mere lowly rifleman and ex-track driver. I have made every know mistake while working on hundreds of (real USGI) M14's and M1A's. And finally, I won't disclose your identity after I've done the warranty part (repair) on your Sproingfield Armory M1A's so called "Lifetime Warranty" which is NFG (no good) on this side of the border. Guess you have not downloaded my hosted videos yet?
Nope, as a new guy I don't know who's who or what's what in these forums. Hence the seemingly naive (but fair) question regarding experience/qualifications. BUT, I've recently become aware of your videos:) and your acquaintances appear to think well of u, which is a very good sign! And no, I dont own either type of m-14(perhaps later) as in the words of the almighty Chuck Taylor "a good arm, but inferior to the FN and AR-10 series":p

Maybe according to Chuck Taylor(I took one of his courses back in the 80's,at the same range we'll be doing this)But you can't shoot your FN's up here(Really wish I could)like you can the M14S.

You're right of course, which is why I (we) are still behind the CSSA court challenge (re: prohib firearms SAP's). Many are giving up due to the "no end in sight" of this case. Although others are shooting them anyway!
In the meantime, we are stuck with the M-14 variants, currently the only non-restricted, non-prohib "battle rifle" in Kanada. Even if one doesn't favor this weapon, one should learn what they can as the chances of encountering one is high.

so..... will we be able to utilize the range during this clinic?
I'm about to rebarrel the pick of my stable of m14s with a krieger DMR and would be great to give her a virgin run at the clinic :D

OK here it is two weeks to go.

Lunch:
I'm going to have some one run into town and pick up pizza for me at least anyone else who wants in let me know, that way we can preorder. I'm thinking about $5 each.

I'm also going to bring a couple of cases of water to drink and some large jugs for washing cleaning etc. Any

First of all the range will be avaliable for use. According to the range rules all non-members must be supervised by an actual member. So everyone who is a SGGC member bring your memberships and we can help the other guys shoot. The range is only open till sunset, but the class room is open as long as required.

Facilities:
Indoor heated class room.
The teaching and small scale work will be done inside. I'm going to put down tarps and we can do the small scale stuff inside.

Outdoor covered open qunset. All the heavy work and welding will be done out here. I'm planning on having a couple of propane patio heaters to help with the chill but bring some warm clothes.

I didn't have time to get a tank built for parkerizing so that's probably out unless I can get one done soon.

Tool and equipment:

I have one service truck with a vice and welder for sure, and am hoping for another.

1 Welder (not sure what type)
1 BFV (big ass vice)
2 generators
2 sets of work lights
1 bench top drill press
1 bench top sander
1 bench grinder
1 chop saw
1 Dremel tool and accesories
2 bolt dissasembly tools
2 sets of castle nut pliers
A bunch of Allen keys
A bunch of brake clean
A bunch of punches
Assorted screw drivers and hand tools
Rags
Lots of Grease
Grease Syringes
Assorted roll pins

What you guys should bring

Things to bring: your M14, some basic tools, notebook, pens, digital camera, rags, ball peen hammer, punches, screwdrivers, more punches, TIG Welder, Service Truck (vise for rebarreling), fired brass for us to measure, plastic or rubber mallet, wood block or 2, Black and Decker Workmate (clamping ability for your barreled action or stock), masking tape, duct tape, Loctite (blue and red stuff), more to follow as I remember or remind myself.

I might have a tig, but more likley a small buzz box that my welder bud says will work.

Other Stuff:
I've got about three Marstar oprods left that I'll bring for anyone who wants one.

If anyone wants I can pick up some grase syringes from Lee Valley and bign them also.

Anything I've forgot to cover or you're interested in please let me know.

Yeah, bring those grease syringes from Lee Valley. I've got a bunch I am bringing to sell at the SW Ontario M14 Clinic hosted at Stormbringer's EESA Club. I bought them for about $1.00, but the shipping and taxes doubles that price to $ 2.00. Then I will fill them up with Cambodian Tire Wheel Bearing Grease (good to minus 40 degrees) ... So essentially, the syringe works out to $ 2.00 and the grease is FREE.

I'm getting excited!

We can always bed with JB Weld (Cambodian Tire) and PAM (your kitchen) for a release agent. Been there, done that lots in the past.

Only 1 more sleep to the SW Bantario EESA Gun Club clinic tomorrow morning.

Okay, we are a week away and I must get on the list of unpaid (unconfirmed CGNutters) to see if they are still able to come. This would possibly free up some room for the waiting list folks. :D

Another thing I need..... 8 thou (0.008") thick stainless or brass shim stock (sheets or roll) !!

Can any of you let me know if you can buy a shztload for me (I'll cover these expenses) to bring to the Saturday clinic?

How about someone hitting the Edmonton Lee Valley tools and picking up 50 or 60 curved tip syringes for me? You can find them in the Lee Valley's Glue section. They sell them for the purpose of applying glue in tighter spaces. They run about $ 1.00 each. I'll bring 2 larger tubes of white and grey wheel bearing grease.

Any of you close to a Lee Valley in Edmonton ? Shim stock material at some industrial supply joint ?

Cheers,
Barney

I picked up 6 syringes at LV on Friday, they cost $2.60 a piece. You sure you want 50-60? My office is 10 minutes from the store, I can make a run on Monday.

Have no idea where to get shim stock. Make a suggestion.
