Is there any competitions around Edmonton this summer?

And for getting a rifle does the caliber matter? like would getting a rifle in 22-250 instead of .223 be a hinderence? Does anyone shoot comptitive with a 22-250 even?

Jeff000,
Check with your Provincial Rifle Association, you can find them through the DCRA web site. w w w.dcra.ca

If you want to shoot F Class a 22-250 will work out to 600 yards. If you want to shoot Target Rifle a fast twist .223 or a .308 will work for 1000 yards. There is a caliber restriction for Target Rifle.

A .22-250 with a quick twist barrel will work for long range F class - but this would have to be a custom barrel.

There's a Service Rifle league that shoots at the Spruce Grove Gun Club. Bear in mind that the Spruce Grove range is limited to 300 yards.

If you have a service rifle with iron sights (e.g. an AR-15 or a Lee Enfield, a Garand or a Norinco 305), the next match is April 23rd. (If you don't have anything appropriate, show up and there's always someone who will lend you a rifle to shoot the match - it's 40 rounds). Alternatively, bring your scoped rifle and shoot the match for fun. The next Service Rifle match at Spruce Grove is April 23rd (first shot at 11 am).

The next "Sharpshooter" match is on May 28th. At that match you can use any firearm with any sight (targets at 100, 200 and 300 yards).

Spruce Grove also has the Swiss Rifle club, which shoots every month, usually on a Saturday.

To get out further you'd need to go to the Genesee range, which goes out to either 700 or 800 yards (call Lock and Load if you want more details on that range).

I understand that there's also a service rifle club that shoots down around Calgary at a range that is six or seven hundred yards. Don't know anyone connected to that club though. There's probably someone on this forum who is familiar with that group.

Would this be the one you were talking about? I seen they had a military shoot on this weekend. I really ...REALLY wanted to go but the GF wouldn't let me out to play...grounded :(

Jeff000,
Your factory 22-250 with a scope will fit into the F Open Class. It will work out to 600 yards with light 55gr bullets. Don't be upset when someone with a fast twist .223 and heavy bullets starts kicking your butt even at the short ranges.:p

that will be ok, the second barrel on the 22-250 will be a 1 in 8 twist, should be good for a 75ish grain bullet I think.
