I wasn't sure where to post this question but figured the folks in the Milsurp would have the knowledge.
I recently purchased a sporterized 1895 Chilean Mauser and have done a little bit of reading about them just to bring me up to speed. Just to be clear, I am not a Milsurp collector and I simply wanted a rifle in 7x57 to play with, and this rifle has absolutely no value as a Milsurp at all. If I enjoy this rifle/caliber as much as most reviews say that I will then I will probably commence looking for a modern commercially made 7x57. If such a thing exists?
From the information I have gathered it seems like a good idea for me to have a competent gunsmith give the rifle a good look, check the headspace, re-crown etc. Also the safety does not function so I would like to get that repaired if possible. I did discover that the safety will only function when the rifle is cocked but my safety will not function at all.
So does anyone here know a gunsmith familiar with Mausers in the Edmonton region, or failing that, in Alberta anywhere?
Thanks,
Dave.
