Edmonton Plinking Locations?

Hey Guys,

Anybody got a place in around Edmonton where they'd let me take a kid plinking with a .22? My wife's 9 year old cousin wants to go hunting with me in fall for the first time, and he's in town today. I thought maybe if I had the time I should take him out and teach him how to safely handle and fire a rifle this evening. Shoot at a few pop cans maybe. (I don't suppose there's many gophers or whatnot out this time oh year?)

Doing this outside would be way nicer than going to the range, although Phoenix is always an option if nothing else presents itself. I'm a farm boy from Medicine Hat, but am stuck in the urban jungle that is Edmonton -- which means my backyard is "RIGHT OUT" (to quote the Book of Armaments, Holy Hand Grenade sectino) as far as plinking goes.

Just PM me if you can help a guy out!

SPFG should be called Hastings Lake Fish and Game... or even Tofield...

You could try spruce groves range too or for indoor - wild west.

Nice, millwoods in general. I'm sure that would go over well!

Anyway, I called Spruce Grove a while ago but they were pretty elitist on the phone. They don't allow day passes or walk-ins, unless I'm accompanied by a member. :( Oh well, the historical arms society sounds more to my liking anyway, given the old beaters that I shoot!

I live in millwoods... I wonder if that is reason enough to ask for a CCW for use while travelling through-out millwoods? LOL

well, it's a private (ie: non-government, but open to members and guests) range, so you need to join to get the code for the gate lock, or go as a guest. There are a bunch of guys that go gopher hunting that post on the get togethers area, they have access to farmland an hour or so out of town, that may be more to your liking. There is no crown land near the city, it's pretty much all privately owned, and some of the near counties have anti shooting policies in place. - dan
