I recently came accross a recipe for a gun cleaning solution called Ed's red. It seems to be a mixture kerosene, ATF, acetone etc. Has anyone had any experience with this. It seems cheap to make. Does it work as well as the commercially sold stuff.

It works as well as most of the regular solvents, like Hoppes #9. I use it for general gun cleaning.

It's not acopper melter, so you need to look elsewhere for that.

I use WIPEOUT for the bore, and Ed's Red for everythign else, although I keep some CR-10 around for if I need to quickly clean a bore.

Other than that, I have not used any other cleaning products for smoe tiome.:)

What would be the best stuff to get rid of copper ?

Sweets or CR10 will melt the copper pretty quicky, but are bad for the bore if left in there too long. Butch's bore shine works pretty good too.

Wipeout is the lazy mans way out. Just spray it in, let it sit till whenever and patch it out.

I use wipeout.

Add about 10% household ammonia by volume to Ed's red and you have a great copper cleaning solvent. Cheap too! Ammonia is the acive ingredient in all of the Copper removing solvents.

Yup, works dandy, but, it must be kept in a tightly sealed container, and, a general note, wives usually don't like Ed's Red. It smells like an auto shop without the ammonia, and worse with it.
