Educate me on chainsaws!

I’ve run a bunch of different brand and my favorite is Stihl the one I have is a 24years old Brazilian made 72 cc and it never let me down even after all those years! I have a smaller pro husky and it never was that great of a saw! I think you need to pick the dealership that gives you the best service and go with the brand they sell!! Husky stihl jonsered shindawa echo of you go professional grade of one of these brand you won’t be disappointed… that said if the dealer you pick offer ####ty service well then you will be cursing for the reste of the saw’s life!

I have a 440 xp

It is alright, I used to cut firewood with it. I was told it would not be able to handle this task by the salesman lol. Good little saw to carry around in your truck

Pretty small trees in that area though

The choke and auto shut off safety feature will drive you nuts if you are used to a pro saw

I bought a Stihl MS271 farmboss for father's day this year with a 20"bar. Works great on everything from Spruce pecker poles to Douglas Fir trees 2' diameter. Once I figured out the starting procedure that is. Much different than my old Poulan Pro. Lots of power and not too heavy. Very please with it thus far.

Ain’t that the truth, saw shops can be worse that car dealerships lol. My local saw shop has been useless more than ever lately and it is a last resort scenario that I give them any money, I’ll drive to the next town over or order online if it’s not an “I need it immediately” moment. Small Power in Barrhead AB is one of the best, they’re website is minimal but their service is top notch, I called them yesterday to order some 28” bars and chains and had a tracking number in my email within 30 mins. They get things in the mail ASAP, wish they were my local shop and I could walk in, best prices you’ll find 99% of the time.

I run a MS 661 arctic with 36"bar for my Alaskan mill, goes through 24" ash and oak no problem. The M-tronic system is pretty sweet.

Stay away from Gord and Neil's small engine in Lethbridge. I dropped my saw and case off with their 'Local guy' in the 'Hat ... it ended up in the 'bridge somehow.
Which is about 3 hours away for me... the response to my query's?
" Come on in and get it "
Umm, I live 3 hours away... not their problem.... my problem apparently.
Give me a good small engine man and I'll pay $$$ and no bill req'd.... hard to find though

@tokguy, thankfully if I can’t fix it myself I have a friend that I work with periodically that can rebuild a saw quite well. He‘s the type of guy that should own a saw shop, he’s right into anything mechanical. He would’ve been a great mechanical engineer.

Get a bigger saw than you think you need. Run it at full throttle. Learn to sharpen it well, including the rakers. Wear protective gear. I got mine when I was 12. Dad financed 1/2 of it. I got took, but I learned a lot. Trees will kill you. Keep your head on a swivel.

70+cc saw for sure if you want to burry a 24” bar all day.
I have a ms362 and a ms460 for my work saws.
The 460 is 8yrs old and love it for the big stuff and milling
The the 362 is 3 yrs old and sees about 75% of the work now.
Timing advance and some port work it pulls a 28” bar not bad. But nothing like the 460

Also have some other small saws for the quad or packing in the pickup.

I work with saws from time to time. And cut 10 or so cords a year.
Forestry grade saws are woth the $$ rover home owner stuff.
Next saw I want is a 201T

I run Husky, thats what my local dealer sells and services, he treats me good so I stay close to home on saw purchases. Have two 562XP and they have served me well, no issues and I cut 20-30 bush cord a year which is more than most people but definitely less than some. My wood is not 24", I avoid that due to back and hip issues, when I do get a larger tree I swap out my bar and chain and tell the wife to warm up the hot tub.

Yes, one of mine does that as well, my 270 I think....never taken it in to have it looked at...often wondered what the issue is....my 271 leaks nothing...

Interesting, I have the 270, 271 and a 440 magnum. I have had a bunch of issues with my 270, in the shop right now and been there for 8 months. If I had to do it again I would not touch the 270 models.

Little to do with the saw and more to do with the incompetent dealer. I do service for a rental outfit, they have 271,291's that are for rent and I have no issues at all keeping them running. They have a great many hours on them and still going strong. What exactly is the issue you are having? Any Mastertech can evaluate the saw in 20 mins and tell you what the issue is then order the parts, get them in a day or 3 and have it back to you next day.

It needed an ignition module. Funny enough they just called saying it is fixed. Took it home and right out to the bush and the ####ing thing sticks on full throttle once it warms up and the kill switch doesn't work. Unreal and very dangerous

Time to find a new dealer!!! The modules are in stock and you do not have to do a thing to the trigger assembly to install one! I did one for a customer last week, came in Monday checked and no spark, ordered module Monday picked up Wednesday and customer collected it same day. Cleaned, sharpened full of fuel and oil. She will be out in her back 40 cutting firewood Saturday. Find a dealer that gives a crap about the customer.
