I'm eyeing one up, either 204 or 223 for Coyote calling.

Tell me all about them. What do you love/hate about them? What other comparably priced lightweight and short barrelled varmint rifles do you feel are superior?

Had one, accurate. Did not like the caliber specific bolt. Made the action feel like a miniature...

I have seen an axis perform just as well.

One of my buddies has one. Now I am not a Savage fan, but it's a neat little rifle. Feels nice for carry. I used it for a couple coyotes, walking the ridge lines and calling. Accuracy was good, under an inch with factory ammo. But I just can't bring myself to owning a Savage. I don't like the triggers or bolts, but that's just me.

I have one in 22 Hornet and it shoots well under sub MOA off the benchrest consistently with the right handload. Very good fit and finish. Has a decent adjustable trigger that breaks real crisp. An excellent value for the 4 notes and change I paid for it new a few years ago.

I'd have a look at the howa mini actions as well. The ruger american ranch rifles also caught my eye.
Finally, browning xbolt.
My savage model 25 worked well, I sold it and got a heavy barrel remington once I realized I spend more time at the range than in the field.

It'll do if you can't find a Remington LVSF.

Had a chance to buy a new one LVSF on clearance years ago.... kicking my butt ever since for not doing it. :bangHead:
Also passed up a really killer new price on a stainless Mountain 700 .308 last year .

Think I would have learned the lesson first time around. Kicking my butt a second time !! :bangHead::bangHead:

Thanks for the info and opinions guys. With the recent NR status on the NEA102 I have changed my priorities. The dedicated walking varminter will have to wait another year.
