Never been much of a fan of AR until recently, but now I'm starting to think about one.

I'm left handed. Do leftie ARs exist? Or is a regular AR ambi-dextrous?

Likely more questions at some point, but that one has me wondering at the moment.

Yes, LH AR's exist.

Yes, regular AR's can be shot left handed without much difficulty. Ambi selectors and mag releases can be added to make it easier.

I'm left handed and I shoot a right handed AR just fine. If you get a regular AR though, get a left hand selector switch (not ambi, left only) cause the right hand switch tends to dig into your hand while shooting left.

i would recommend against geting a left hand ejecting ar and just go with a regular one with ambi controls. (just to save ur resale value)

Thanks guys.

Probably makes sense. Likely cheaper too I'd expect?

Stole this photo from the AR pix thread. Ball park, what would it cost, assuming a regular good quality upper and lower? How much more would a match barrel and trigger run? Not counting the scope.

Oh, and what barrel twist is best? Assuming I'll be mostly shooting at about 200 yards.

thats a 3000 gun. i cant say exactly tho

Easilly 3k. probably closer to &4-4500. includeing optic.
Basic things to consider:
1) 90 percent of us shoot 55gr. ammo.,a 1:8 twist will serve you well from 12" and up. personally I would go 1:7 for anything shorter.
2) There are a ton of lefty controls avail. or use ambi controls
3) I don't think you will have any issues shooting a standard AR left handed(lots do it well)...I would recomend fuller lens type glasses if your going to shoot cheap crap ammo.
4) It is going to be your gun if you want a left handed version...Stag makes a decent AR.
5) Screw resale, your not the only lefty out there. If you build an AR specifically for resale(I might sell it someday) you are not building for yourself and you will not be happy.
6) If its your first AR buy basic, learn to shoot it. Then modify it to your taste/abillities and style of shooting.

My daughter is left handed and shoots my right hand ARs. She doesn't like the casings passing in front of her face, but she's getting used too it.

I've looked into the left handed AR uppers and most people I talked too said that they're a bit of a gimmick. I have to say that it does add quite a bit of expense.

All my firearms are right-handed, including my Norinco AR-15. I shoot them all just fine left-handed. I shoot mixed ammo through my AR and have had no problems. I have no desire to go out and buy a left-handed model. Just make sure you always wear your shooting glasses.

Or, you could get a really nice one for free. Just sign on the dotted line and you can get your own C-7 or C-9 to enjoy.

That's like saying that Health care in Canada is "free". There is a hell of a lot less blood, sweat and tears involved in buying your own rifle.

I haven't seen my rifle in two years.

I quite like watching the empties flash before my eyes, lets me know that everything is working and I should expect a "Bang" instead of a "Click"!

Ambi mag release makes life far easier especially if you are slung up in the prone position!

Left handed uppers are interesting but if anything breaks you can't use "Off the shelf" parts to fix it.

I'm left eye dominant as well as left handed.

I'm right handed, and right eye dominant, and I shoot both right and left handed, give it one range trip and you'll have it figured out :p

Or go with a Stag lefty from Arms East :D

People can still shoot em (the lefty Stag's) right handed, the modern AR was designed as an ambidextrous rifle, with the case deflector, charging handle, and easy ability to add selectors.

If you want that specific stock, its about 400 bucks for the magpul UBR, however a Magpul CTR (about 100-150 depending on where you get it) is a very nice stock.

You can get rail systems anywhere from 150 for the cheaper ones (UTG or yankee hill machine) up to 300+ for top end ones like Daniel Defense and Troy specialty ones. Fabsports has a 9" (midlength) free float troy for 199 on their website, a regular carbine length (6") would be a little less probably.

A flip up or fixed rear iron sight, depending on if you want optics.

Me too, I shoot rifles typically right handed and handguns left, but I'm slowly learning to shoot handguns right too, just takes lots of dry fire practice, though everyone's different of course... I just found it easier to teach myself to shoot right in a right handed world, ambi-guns are nice and all, but in a zombie infested world you may not always have the choice! lol
