Edumacate me on airguns

If a spring airgun diesels, they will hear it. Airguns can be quite loud.

If you go Sub 500. Go with 22 cal for more energy. I shot a crow with a 177 Beeman when I was a kid. Knocked it out of the tree and required me to finish it off on the ground.
 
You should check to be sure it is legal to shoot ravens where you are, aside from discharge bylaws.

A lot of pellet rifles will be as loud as cci quiets out of a rifle. A couple days ago I was shooting cci quiets 710fps with my wife listening from about 120 yards away behind me, the quiet 710fps load was very faint, and was barely noticeable unlike 22lr supersonic loads. A single shot from a cci quiet shouldn't get much attention especially on a windy or rainy day. Accuracy seems to fall off though any further than about 35 yards the groups really open up compared to other more powerful subsonic loads.
 
I like ravens, I don't support anyone shooting them.
But if you must absolutely don't do it with a cheap .177 springer.
They might eventually die from lead poisoning but they sure as hell won't die kinetically.

CCI quiets out of a longer barrel is a far better bet.
 
Could think out of the box and stick a couple of these plastic decoys around.

crows will do that.. havent seen ravens around here do that
a diana 34 or panther 31.. its a quality air rifle .. accuracy is veeeery good
D and L airgun sells them
Go for 22cal….
Save up and get a hawke scope…. And no varmints will leave your yard alive ….
 
I have one of the Diana Mauser rifle .177 cal spring air guns.It is very accurate and powerful(need a PAL) but a tad heavy.I use it to cull the squirrel population when they get out of line.It is also set up for a scope.It also comes in 22

A heavy .177 pellet (10.34 grains) at 1000 f/s in the chest of a raven at 40 yards will do the job. You need to be able to hit a golf ball at that distance.

Wish that this nice air arms gun would be in the $300 (see op) budget, I'd be all over that :)
 
I agree..a PAL rated rifle. Im partial to German made ones.(the British also make some excellent air guns)I've owned many north American branded rifles.. all made in China. Some ok..some not. I've kept my Benjamin Nitro..its very accurate and powerful..
But my favorite is my Weihrauch HW90 in .177 ...a beautifull rifle...a(nd very powerful.. then the Walther Taurus in .22.. Almost as gorgeous..
All springers... need to master the hold..

Ya I watch air arms south Africa....5k airguns are off the table. They're birds, probably a couple lbs, a .177 will do at my distance.

Horrible, random accident, my buddy, a 12yr old ####zu was killed today. Little guy saved my life, twice. One of the targets of the ravens. Words are hard, I suspect like the death of my father and 911, it's one of those moments that sticks.
 
Has the OP checked out Princess Auto in Langley. They have an online catalog. I bought an American Classic handgun in .22 about 3 years ago. These are the ones you pump up. They suggest 10 pumps but I've read of guys pumping higher. I wouldn't be scared to shoot ravens at 10 pumps at a reasonal distance. About a month ago I bought one in .177 along with a cheapo chinese .177 rifle break barrel. I havn't tried out these last 2 yet as I'm waiting for these 2 feet of snow to disapear. The American Classic in 177 pump was $69.95. The rifle was on sale for $44.95.
Here in my home province of Manitoba, we can shoot upland game birds with pellet guns. I think Princess Auto does mail order.

I've shot the .22 quiets and I was impressed as I was shooting a family of racoons in the attic of an old building on friend's farm.
