Maybe it’s just because I’m interested in one, but there seem to be a fair number of these listed on the EE. Not meant to be a Leupold bashing thread here as I’m a big fan but tend to max out at VX3 level. Thoughts?

That's interesting information. As a retired dealer I used to sell approximately 4-5 VX5's per year, most of then being the fire-dot model.

My retail price used to be $1450.00. (2023) Now I've seen them at $2495.00 retail.

Although I think they are okay, I would not buy one personally. Certainly not at $2495.00.

A couple of my friends bought them, I looked through their rifles, and actually shot their guns. I don't see the attraction.......:(

A VX3 CDS HD in a 3.5-10x40mm seems to be just as good.

They're unreliable to a popular hunting forum in the US as they apparently dont hold zero from even soft impacts. People have lost trust in them. They are also not worth what dealers are charging for them in my opinion anyway. The weight and cds dials are nice but not if you cant trust them.

The value of a lifetime warranty varies inversely with the distance to a maintained road.

If you notice a lot of the 2-10x42 for sale it’s because Basspro had a pricing error recently and sold the $2000+ scopes for around half the price. People jumped on it so they could resell.

...and this ☝️

A lot of resellers due to last weeks pricing error on the Bass Pro site.
Also Varget powder was priced in USD on the CDN site.
The powder was a great deal for those that caught but in time

I was in the market for this Luepold and caught the deal. Its mounted on my rifle now. Also grabbed 8 pounds of varget the other week + 10% extra off for in store pick up. Thought the deals were to good but never questioned it.
Guess I got lucky on those 2

Lots of rumours about leupolds not holding zero or tracking properly. Currently running 3 leupolds, 2 of which are VX5 3-15 and never had a issue or personally know anyone that has either. In fact I know someone that’s dialled more clicks on Leupolds than some walk and he’s never had a issue.

Its certainly not a “rumour” of failure to hold zero or track correctly. The Leupold reps themselves talked about it on 24hrcampfire during a live Q&A a couple years ago and got thoroughly roasted. “Just dial past and come back, and tap the turret to settle it in place”.

When nobody else was doing what they were doing, they were the top of the heap. Now cheaper options will outperform their top wares.

Got that scope too. Also, they had a keg of H4895 for $450 a couple days ago, got that one too.
