EESA Grand Tournament 3 gun match

Correction

26 slugs and 64 birdshot!

You're killin' me Storm, you're killin' me.........................

I hope there's no 5" high ports on this one!! Somehow I have the feeling you're gonna give it to us again...............:runaway:

What size birdshot(s) would you suggest we bring?

Can't wait for the fun.:D

Buy the low velocity S&B slugs.

They are super cheap and easy on the shoulder.

As to ports...............they were actually 6 whole inches tall!! Quit exagerating!!! LOL!

We have some interesting stages for this match. I am looking forward to it.

None of those in my neck of the woods, only Winchester value packs at $14 for a 15 pack.

I'm expecting something a bit more colourful than that.

What colour worm would you like to be?

I notice that you didn't make any ports higher than five feet, right?

Just a thought..........IPSC is supposed to be a shooting contest. All the silly super-low ports and running stages are great, but only distance the top shooters from the rest of the field. I personally don't care that much because I am still in "reasonable" condition. I thought it was all fun. :D

It is the majority of competitors that you should cater to. The top shooters will ALWAYS end up near the top anyway. Just my .02.:)

I have a question about the birdshot, as I just bought my first shotgun and never taken part in a IPSC shotgun match before this may sound like a stupid question. but.....

I went to CTC today and they had the Federal field and range 100rd value pack in 12 gauge for about 30 bucks, would this work for the birdshot portion?? also they had the Winchester target load if that makes any difference.

thanks for the opinions

Anytime the stage is more than "don't move your feet and blast away 8 rounds" physical condition will come into play.

As long as it's reasonable...it's part of the game. It's what sets IPSC apart from bullseye, precision rifle...skeet

The challenge of getting into position for a low port...or running down range and having to slow your breathing down sufficiently to hit the rest of the targets...is not unreasonable (IMO). I guess we all learned how much more physical the rifle component is.

PS...I hated the low ports too

What is the shot size?

I like Winchester AA Heavy target loads (#7.5)

If they are standard volocity (target loads are fine) and #7.5 or larger (but no largerthan #4) you should be OK. Avoid any of the "light" loads for bird shot. They won't knock down the steel as effectivly.

Plain old trap loads in 7 1/2 work fine. low recoil big spread thats were ya wanna go.

And I agree with Quigley if ya want to stand in one spot and shoot why shoot IPSC. The whole idea is to make it fun and challenging not boring and static.

yeah these are the 7 1/2 shot, 1 1/8 ounce, forget exactly what the Winchester was but I think it was similar.

looks like I minus well pick up a box then

thanks Weeman and Quigley

Try those shells out in your gun first, before the match. Those shells are notorious for sticking in certain chambers after being fired. Hate to see you with extraction problems for your first match.

All the silly super-low ports

Those ports were placed in that position for a good reason.

It is to "force" what is called the "urban prone" position. The actualy idea came from the Magpul Tactical Rifle DVD series.
and running stages are great, but only distance the top shooters from the rest of the field.

Actually if you were to look at the results you would see that the "running" stages were pretty well scored across the total cross section of competitors.

What did have an impact was the stages with targets placed further than 50m

I thought it was all fun. :D
That is the way most/all Ontario 3 gunners look at things. Maybe someday when/if there are more than 2 matches a year in Ontario people will try to be more "competative" but right now it is only fun.

It is the majority of competitors
The number of 3 gunners has only been growing the past few years. Something must be happening right.
The top shooters will ALWAYS end up near the top anyway. Just my .02.:)
Thus far that has not always been the case in 3 gun.
