Egg vs .22LR

See, that right there is the kind of video that is slowly but surely helping the antis to erode our gun rights.

"If it saves just one unborn chicken..." :)

Thanks for posting the video! I'm not living up to my CGN username in recent months...good weather and free time simply haven't come at the same time for me. Glad to see some people are braving the cold!

I usually shoot empty 9mm or 223 shell for fun at 50m.

^yep, my go-to 50 meter reactive targets are 12ga and 20ga shotgun hulls...jammed open-end into the ground. Hit the plastic=pass through or knock-over if you just clip it. Hit the brass (about 1/4" high) and goodbye shotgun hull! :)

I tried this with a 22 air rifle and some rotten eggs. Your results were much more impressive. Interesting the difference the extra energy makes

I know this is posted in the rimfire section and egg splatters are cool and all but...

If someone wants to see impressive try putting away the .22 air rifle and the .22 rimfire.

Bring out a .22 caliber centerfire with a good fragmenting varmint bullet, move out to 200 yards and watch the eggs vaporize.

500 yard egg explosion wth 22 centerfire or a 204 ruger! That would give me the willies lol

I shoot .223, and spent a summer with a nice .204 blasting groundhogs. Love them both, load for both...and a 204 is on my "next gun" short list. :) As for results with various calibers, it's allot of fun exploring that. Probably why I take so many photos of dead varmints...noting the caliber/bullet used, distance, where it was hit, etc. For 22LR~when I was setting up my CZ for gopher duty, among the best shooting/fast/economical ammo types was CCI Blazer. After discovering this, I bought a Waltz die and put some gaping hollow points in some Blazers and tested again for accuracy...but also effect. I set-up some over-sized, frozen carrots..and shot with the solids. Sailed through, often busted them in half. A hit with the Waltzed hollow-points=almost vaporized, more like a hit from a 17HMR. Dramatically different, barely a piece bigger than a green pea leftover. lol

Love messing with this stuff.. :)

Or just use 22LR on 200yd eggs. Any 22 CF is not a lot of challenge - the hydrostatic shock is just more dramatic .

That waltz die did it effect accuracy at all? Ive often thought about buying one

I think it's supposed to improve it brybenn, but as soon as I got mine..I ran samples of every ammo type I had through it (which is allot), then tested modified..and unmodified ammo. Even if what I had was a hollow point to start with (ie, Winchester white box garbage) I STILL ran it through. This was a few years back, but if memory serves...it either didn't change accuracy at all, or improved it slightly. Only dramatic change was the terminal results. :)

I subsequently did a quick test on the gophers themselves when I got out west with these Blazers. The solids hit with a "thup" sound, passed through..and resulted in crawlers. (body shots) The Waltzed ones hit with a louder "THAPP" sound, inside parts exited at the very least...sometimes flew away...and immediate demise 9/10 times. The 1/10 didn't get more than a foot away from where they were hit. Nobody needs to believe me...but I shot over 4,000 rounds of this stuff on a week long trip..and have lots of gooey photos to back this up. If you lived close, I'd be happy to run some ammo through it for you to test.

I sold my 204 tikka i shouldn’t have. I’m interested in trying this waltz die now. My cz 452 varmint shoots Cci blazer into less than 1/4” groups at 50 yards. Try doing the waltz die thing on the Cci velocitors or the Aguila hyper velocity rounds I bet that would get nasty lol

A CZ452 Varmint in 22LR is what I use for gophers primarily. It's THAT gun that shot the Blazer so well. :)

Here is a gopher that felt the full effect of a custom, Waltz/CCI BLAZER HP

If you're seriously considering a Waltz die, start the process. Neil makes them in small batches, and can be very slow to respond. You're best off calling him to see if he has any on hand, or, when you should check in on the next round.
