This is a step that is often missed cause it is assumed that actions are straight and level. Some aren't. If you check the base install BEFORE you tighten up the base and ensure all is straight and level, the rings you install will also be straight and aligned.
If the action rail holes are misaligned, you got problems and a simple bedding may not resolve that at all.
EGW and many other top tier rings, line hone their rings in sets. They are as true as can be manf to each other... nothing we do in lapping can improve this.. it can only make things less perfect.
If I have spent a bucket of money on expensive line honed rings, I am most definitely not going to lap them. I will take the extra steps to align and support the base as needed.
