EGW rings - feedback ?

Any 1st hand feedback on the EGW tactical rings ? I have ATRS Ultra-Light installed on my other rifles which I like (no lapping required as per ATRS) but wondering if these EGW could do the trick too for a new rig. To they need to be lapped ?

Which model are yo interested with, Tactical or Practical ?

I'm looking to buy ( haven't decided yet ) a set of EGW practical rings.
They are compact and they height is right what I'm looking for.
There is not much reviews on them but form what I saw, they are solid and they don't mark the scope tube.

EGW is budget stuff but it works better than duct tape. If you have expensive glass to mount spend the extra few bucks, your scope will thank you.

^thats a bit of a ridiculous comment. lol

I have 30mm EGW "Practical" rings holding my Sightron SIII down to my Savage 10, .223. I didn't get them because they were budget rings, I got them because I liked the look of them and have only had good experiences with EGW products. I also don't like scope rings to have a dozen visible socket-cap/machine screws per rings clamping my scope in place. I'm hunting groundhogs and coyotes, not going to war. lol

Not sure I'd make a point of getting them again, but maybe. They've worked perfectly since the day I mounted them, and I still like the look of them.
 
I am looking at the Tactical Model 30mm to mount a Nikon Black X1000. Again, I have ATRS 30mm on my other higher end scopes which I like a lot, but I was wondering if something different could be good enough this time. I called EGW asking if lapping was required and they answered no because they are paired match (tactical model). The price difference is not that big, not sure if this is worth the risk, this is why I am asking.
 
EGW is a large manf of bit and parts for the US market. They are a OEM manf for some very large brands.

"budget stuff"... well, you can always pay the premium in the fancy packaging of the big name brand.

Putting in another EGW order now for those interested. Please pm or email.

FYI, quality rings do not resolve any alignment issues of your base due to an action that is not true.....

Would you mind to clarify your last statement? I alway use a good one piece base, epoxy bedded to the action and quality rings. Do you mean I should lap regardless of what the manufacturer recommends? How scope alignment can be wrong this way?

This is a step that is often missed cause it is assumed that actions are straight and level. Some aren't. If you check the base install BEFORE you tighten up the base and ensure all is straight and level, the rings you install will also be straight and aligned.

If the action rail holes are misaligned, you got problems and a simple bedding may not resolve that at all.

EGW and many other top tier rings, line hone their rings in sets. They are as true as can be manf to each other... nothing we do in lapping can improve this.. it can only make things less perfect.

If I have spent a bucket of money on expensive line honed rings, I am most definitely not going to lap them. I will take the extra steps to align and support the base as needed.

They are on .22's lol... Thats where budget rings belong.... :nest::nest::nest:

But I also had a set of practicals on my hunting rifle for 5 years and they never moved.

Got it. Thanks. I never lapped my ATRS either. While I am pretty confident in my scope mounting procedure with bedding, I was unsure if you were suggesting I should lap from your comment.
