Hi,

I have a friend who father is looking to sell two side by side shot guns. Both are in excellent condition. The first is an El-Faizan 3" side by side, and he is asking $300 for it. The other is a Stevens 311 2 3/4" and he is $250.00 for it. My question is I am new to shot guns and am wondering if either of these is a good buy. I and leaning more toward the El-Faizan because it will handle the 3" shells. I plan on using it for skeet and trap shooting, and upland hunting.

Opinions?

Thanks,

Offer him $500 for the pair and then you won't have to fret about them anymore.
Use the pretty one for trap and take ole faithful for feathers.

I would lean toward the the El Faisan, not because of the chamber difference(it won't tolerate steel shot anyway) but because the spanish tend to make a nicer handling low to mid priced shotgun the americans did.

I agree, the El Faisan is the better gun overall. But, we need to know what the chokes are in those guns before suitability for any particular purpose can be judged. Full and modified chokes, for example, would be a huge handicap in skeet shooting. It's virtually impossible to find one choke combination that is well suited to both skeet and trap. You may have to choose between the two games, for now, and buy the gun that is best suited. Or, you may find that both guns are choked F/M and, therefore, you are best to concentrate on trap and hunting with whichever you choose.

Conversely, if either is choked improved cylinder and modified, you could concentrate on skeet and hunting at first. Hard to tell from the image, but the El Faisan looks to be good value for the price.

You need both guns for your intended uses. The El Faisan is going to be a lighter gun and you will feel it if you do much clays shooting. It is also a sidelock which is not the first choice for clays shooting. Great for upland hunting. The Stevens is probably a bit heavier and ,being a boxlock, more suited to clays. It's probably full and modified chokes but you can easily have them opened up.
