Elcan OS3.0B - Review

Good review and I agree with the points made. I've only had mine a few months and it hasn't had much range time yet. I was wondering about the mildot spacing and why they're like they are. Coming across information for this scope is hard to find, great summary. With the fixed magnification and glass quality, I find my eyes don't tire the way they do with some other lower power variable scopes. I have had some ball caps interferer with elevation turrets, but this can be worked around. Eye relief is a tad short, but is working in different shooting positions. I've had mine on two different rifles and BUIS are a no go for rear mounting - it doesn't bother me at all.

One thing to note, is that the thumb screw is not switchable, so it only mounts from the left. On my T97 this causes you to have to be very careful when charging (I have the FTU), I've smashed thumb and fingers into a few times. (this will be rectified by swapping the charging handle to the right hand side). Don't bother trying to reverse the base the OS 3 sits on, the thumb screw will be blocked by the battery housing.
 
Oh about the illumination Bolivar, it's not your battery. 1-6 must only be for Night Vision, as you cant even see the reticle in a pitch black room, until you hit 7, it's only on 8 that you can barely see it in a normally lit room. It has to be set 9+ to be usable.
 
Hopefully I'm not spamming the thread, and it seems like a bit of an echo chamber. With the Elacan OS3.0B mounted to a T97 with an FTU, my olight Valkyrie (wml) actually mounts well to the rubber bumper on either side. This may sound really funky, but seems to work, and leaves the much need hand space on the lower without additional rails.

Good to know on the illumination and the light mounting. I just tried it with my TLR-1 and yeah it does hold solid. A little wiggle with a light isn't such a bad thing. I still think it would be a poor choice for an RDS though.
 
I couldn't see putting an RDS one there ... to high and not solid at all.

I'm liking mine as well. Gets faster for close range stuff with both eyes open as you get used to it as well. It would be nice to be able to put a reds on top. Too bad there's no after market replacement rail.
 
Seems like it's just kind of "in between". Not a RDS and maybe not quite enough mag power. I guess it really depends what you are doing with it.
