Elcan OS4X

Is that the one that remains at 4 power without the switching back and forth from 1 power?

I was wonderring who had them and the cost myself?

Yes, it is a fixed 4x scope with an ACOG type reticle. Retail is about $1300. I have a line on one but was looking for input.

It's true, the greatest strength of the ELCAN is the 1x/4x capability, and arguably a better reticle.

The ACOG's have everything else going for it, except possible price.

And the mounting options. Even the stock thumbscrew mount is preferable to ARMS levers. ACOGs were so much cheaper just a couple of years ago.

I've just received mine. Amazing glass. I took the chevron version, since I think it's a better option for close up shooting.

Haven't mounted it yet, just waiting for the SCAR. Perhaps I'll mount it on the Tavor this weekend to take it for a spin.

Will post pics of the scope tomorrow.

It's basically a heavier ACOG with better glass. Can't comment on the reliability on the mount yet, but here are some pics. Please note: Blackberry cameras are no substitute for a good camera;)

Unfortunately, I cannot get a focused shot of the reticle, but I would venture to say that it is very similar to the ACOG. The illumination is separated for the chevron and the rest of the reticle, which I think is a great idea.

THe only reason that I will buy an Elcan is for the battery powered illumination or I am using it on IAR or LMG (larger field of view for spotting splash) - it is heavy. ACOG is a much more efficient rifle optic, but the fibre optics does not work well under some light conditions because it is not adjustable.

I hate the mount, everything is exposed...

I guess I'll try to revive this thread, I have a os4x coming in a few day so how has this optic held up, and any inputs from users would be welcome. Can I use the scope with both eyes open.

I've shot with my OS4X fitted with a Robarms XCR in 5.56mm. Shot around 2000 rounds in three years and it never failed me... One of the best optics I ever had. :)
Only question I had with is about the battery life of the night reticles... I'm wondering how much time it can stays on, as I've changed the batteries once already.

And yes, you'll be able to shoot with both eyes opened.
