Is the scope very good? I`m thinking of getting/trying one out on .223 rifle that rides on quads, tractors, and in trucks etc. Do they hold up to hard use and hold zero?

C79A2 is what you see on a C7A2. They have a upgraded base on the with a counter spring to help return to zero. 1.5 lbs tho, not light but real robus. Theyre mounted on C9 LMG that people slam down the feed tray cover with the optics mounted on them. Also normally grab by the sight.

You can find a older C79 sight for under 500$

Also note when comparing the Elcan(s) to other optics that the Elcan(s) include the optics mount which will add to the weight of any other optic that does not include it's mount.
It's something that's often overlooked when comparing weights...

Speaking of the Elcan optic on a C7A2 (optic C79A2), it's really quite amazing to see the real abuse they can take, picture slamming a rifle with mounted optic against a concrete floor at a very high rate of speed and you'll get the idea of what they can take. I wouldn't be surprised if you could use one of these optics as a hammer w/o damaging it, not that I'd recommend it.;)

So yeah what Jerry stated...

Cheers D

I think I am in the minority here when I say that i quite liked the elcan. I fount it precise enough on a c7 or a c9 and I loved the tritium fence post reticle.

I'm a fan of Trijicon products myself. The ACOG is the best fixed power optic out there IMO. I had the TA31F and it was an impressive piece of kit. They have a wide range of reticles and mounts to choose from (aftermarket support). I have since gravitated towards the TR-24 1-4. Light, robust, very generous eye box, with dual illumination and no batteries. Mine has the red triangle of death reticle. Very fast.

The C79A2 is alright if you have one that can hold a zero. I dislike the reticle because it lacks illumination and the arrow crosshair is thick and obstructs vision. They are also on the heavy side and eye relief leaves something to be desired. On the bright side they have very clear glass.

Given the choice I'd definitely go in another direction and pick a variable power optic (ideally without batteries because winter). Leupold 1-6 looks awesome. Trijicon now makes a 1-6 as well. There's a couple TR-24's on the EE right now. = )

I've used a Elcan on my AR180 for over 12 years now and the tritiums finally dead and its been great in the fields and also cqb in the bush on coyotes. You might want to consider some sort of 1 x 4 with battery illumination a lot cheaper than paying the big bucks then having the tritium go dead and its not replaceable for civis now.---Dieseldog!

Elcan also has the M145W which is very similar to the C79.
It is battery illuminated, also a 3.4 power and has more of an ACOG style ladder sight.
