Anyone have any experience with this item? First-hand or otherwise? It seems to be the perfect combat optic, but then again, I dunno jack $hit. ;)

I read the specs and was impressed. Eye relief is the same whether at 1x or 4x. Mount seems bulletproof. Seems a might heavy @ 1lb, but who am I kidding. My chunky ole 49 yr old a$$ isn't gonna be lugging either rifle thru the bush for hours on end, so does it matter?

There's one on the EE for sale at roughly $1k less than retail, supposedly only a few months old. Figure it'd make a great buddy for either my Tavor or my SwissArms CQB.

I'm also very pleased with mine.
I didn't abuse it enough to comment the zero retention.
I don't believe it's big or heavy if you compare it to Acog+MRD or EOTech+magnifier.

X1!
I have one and using it instead of my T-1 + magnifier gave me a better FOV and no difference in bulk or weight.
In fact, I liked it so much that I bought another one!

Ditto. Weight is probably comparable (maybe even a bit less) than a similar setup. It does take up less rail space than a HWS or red dot + magnifier. Awesome on a Tavor!

This has been discussed pretty extensively on M4C and lightfigter. The general consensus is that they aren't worth the money or even close to it. Issues that have been raised:

-zero retention when shifting between power settings.
-1x is much closer to 1.75/2x
-Price is in Short Dot territory.
-durability of the base.
-weight

I've done a bit of research and your best bet seems to be the TR24G, price is fantastic for what you get and the illumination is good in nearly all conditions. Your 1x setting is as close as it gets and significantly closer to 1x then the DR.

I'm in the market for a 1-4 optic and I'm leaning strongly towards the Trijicon TR24G, it seems like a good choice based on every thing that I read. What about this one:

I've handled a Pitbull, seemed nice. Some say the lit reticle washes out in bright sun, I'd like to test myself. A lot of internet facts don't stand up to first hand inspection. They are pretty heavy and it's 1x OR 4x, nothing in between.

I've had a DR on loan for a bit run it on my AR. I like it, the glass is super clear, the 1-4 lever is quick and simple. I haven't seen any of the dreaded 'impact shift', but it's not meant to be a precision/sniper scope. The only down side I can see is that my buddy is going to want it back soon.

I have a DR and I have had no issues with it, in fact I am really enjoying it. I am no expert by any means but I like the way I can switch magnification and have the best of both worlds.

Specter DR GEN 3 is one of the best combat scopes in the world, The zero problem has been solve awhile back, so its not an issue.

Like everything they make, it's an interesting idea but, IMO poorly executed. I've been using the new generation sights for some time now. They are supposedly "improved" but they still loose their zero after being lightly handled, are not NVG compatable, render modern BUIS useless, work poorly using the BAC, and, are non illuminated.....but that's the C-79....

IMHO the DR is no ACOG or short dot. It's heavy and mounted in that ridiculous externally adjusted cradle.

After my latest experience with the Specter OS 3.0 I am reluctant to trust my life to any Elcan product. Which is unfortunate because I like the idea of a high quality Canadian optic......and it's pretty much all we issue :-(

Just my humble opinion.

BUT......if you want the low down (with a bias) you should definitely call Andrew at Armament Technology. It's unfortunate that they don't really sell anything else because they have some of the best customer service I have seen in the business.

This would be good news. I'd still like to see a couple changes however.

1. Upgrade the base from ARMS throw levers.

2. Make the 1x setting actually 1x. Even if it was 1.1 would be fine. This is something that the other serious players have done and most for less money.

Without those changes IMHO your better served with an aimpoint T-1 w/mag setup. Especially if the bulk of your time is spent at distances under 200m, as you can simply run without the mag and save the weight most of the time.

I agree the arms lever do loosen abit over time and I have not noticed the 1x problem with ours "but I will look again" all an all the Specter DR is raising the bar on other combat sight platforms.
