Hey Guys
Looking for some info from experts on scopes, which I openly admit I am not, the two scopes I am looking at are the trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24 and the Elcan DR Spectre 1-4 in 7.62. I am mounting the scope on my RA XCR-L which is in 7.62x39. I have used Elcan's at work and they are very nice but I saw a Accupoint at a local gun shop and was amazed. For half the price it was pretty darn nice. So now, since I cant really decide, I am looking for some first hand experiences. What makes the Elcan so awesome or is the trijicon just as good for half the price? Watcha boys think?

I have both. I like my Elcan better. More robust I guess. But there's nothing wrong with the Trijicon. Both are specd for 7.62 x 51
The elcans lighting modes are much better, and I think the glass is more clear, and more light gathering. But it's heavy.

I've been considering the Trijicon TR24G myself. I hadn't actually looked at the Elcan, however, I was debating between the TR24 and a NightForce NXS Compact 1-4x24. I will be going with the Trijicon. Cost was one thing that led me to that decision, and the simple batteryless illuminated reticle. The one thing that still has me seriously considering the NightForce is the power throw lever. I really like the idea of instantly moving from 1x to 4x power on the move. The way it seems to me is that it is hard to go wrong with the Trijicon. Well built and great simplified reticle and illumination. I just have this sneaking suspicion that I may still own both in the future... :)

Ok but the elcan can also switch between 1 and 4 as well why did you rule that out? I wish I had money for both...

I didn't rule it out, initially. I hadn't heard about it till I read this thread, though after looking at it, I ruled it out just because I didn't like the aesthetics. Then I looked at the price and ruled it out because of the price as well. The Trijicon is half the price and the NightForce, while more than the Trijicon is still less than the Elcan. For me, it's an easy choice. Your priorities may differ.

It is still a tough choice for me to decide between the NightForce and the Trijicon because I really want both... :)

EDIT: Just a note is that I'm putting it on my Kel Tec RFB.

Hey so I originally bought the Elcan in 7.62x51 for my XCR-M, when I swapped up to a vortex scope I sold it. I missed it more than I can express haha. So I just replaced my EoTech EXPS3 and G33.STS multiplier on my XCR-L (7.62x39) with a 5.56x45 Elcan. I Personally have never shot an ACOG. But I am in love with the Elcan its like an Aimpoint in 1x(which I prefer over the EoTech, I have a vortex copy on my ruger 10/22) and its extremely clear and easy to shoot in 4x. I love that if your batteries die the sight is still fully functional, and I love the rain sights on the top. I put the ARD on it and on 1x you can kinda see it, but not enough to bother me. The ARD likes to collect snow and water making the rain sights a must have feature. Yesterday I was shooting skeet with it and then target shooting on 4x; the switching between is so easy and efficient. Yes I did just admit to skeet shooting with a 7.62x39, it was extremely fun :p I hit 3, 1 on the first shot. i must have shot close to 100 rounds in total though hahaha. I believe all the hype is true sorry TRD, and yes it is one the heavy side, but it is also built like a brick #### house, I am not afraid to beat my rifle around at all cause it takes all the abuse. All in all, if you are willing to spend the money, I would say get it.

Wow that looks awesome! I definitely love the rugged ability of the elcan I am not sure if the trijicon could stand up to the same abuse. However the price is definitely rough...

Heres some shots of the new Elcan (5.56)

I swear the camera picks up far more ARD then my eye... I can just barely see it when using it.

I have the 1-4 Accupoint on my Tavor, I replaced an Aimpoint PRO with it and I really like it. The glass quality is great and the battery-less illumination is great. Where I have found it falls short for me is the reticule, I have the red chevron post reticule and on a 14" gong at 400yds it gets hard to judge holdover with no extra horizontal references. Also the thick post obscures much of the target when you holdover.

In my opinion, its great for closer range work, it worked awesome at 200yds shooting at a 8" gong, but the reticule lets it down at longer ranges. I think that is where a calibrated reticule like a Elcan, ACOG, Nightforce etc will have an advantage.

Here is my setup

I am thinking of replacing it with a Sightron SIII 1-7x24 IRMOA, for the same price as my Accupoint.

I have both, and prefer the longer eye relief of the TR24G on my AR, but like the Spectre DR on my Tavor. They both have their ups and downs. I have a SIII 1-7 also, the eye relief on that one is AMAZING. Great clarity and FOV on it as well, my only complaint is the illumination isn't very bright. It's a few inches longer than the TR24, but doesn't seem much heavier.

I guess this is the other thing to consider. My decision to look at the Trijicon is also on the basis that the rifle I'm attaching it to won't be intended for use beyond 200m.

If that is as far as you will be using it, then I think you will like it a lot. Everyone that shoots my Tavor can't believe the clarity of the glass. But if I was to buy another one, I would look at the green reticule instead of red. Your eye picks it up so much better, compare it side by side and it definitely stands out.

The Trijicon seems to be sufficiently tough for anything I do. I'm not soldier rough on my gear, but I don't baby it either. It rode around on my Tavor in the truck for quite a few months no worse for wear.
