There are lots of Elcan C79 outthere - BEWARE!!!
There are "official" rebuilds by Armament tech, which are repurged.....there are un-offical rebuilds by enterprising people who picked up surplus tubes from the junkyard, and snapped on a mount from another pile of the junkyard or with a new mount.
There were even Surplus Elcan being sold at surplus store at one point.......all the junk tubes universally have dead tritium and most of them have noticeable broken seal (dust inside the tube) Junk tubes rebuilt was a sport a few years ago.
Of course, there are also legitimate GEN2 and GEN 3 that were sold commerically. However, C79 has not been manufactured for a few years. The serial number on the tube will tell you the year of manufacturing.
When C79 was still being manufactured and sold commerically, the going price for a GEN3 in very good condition in the used market was about 650 dollars.
The C79 system is in its final leg - you should assume that parts and supports behind these sights are dwindling.
