Ok, I need REAL answers on this (not "I heard" or "I think"). Can I legally use an electric caller (foxpro) to call predators (coyotes) in Alberta? I know you are NOT allowed to use them for big game. If your allowed in other provinces, thanks for stopping by and rubbing it in...but what about ALBERTA?

You weill find the answer is "no". Look in the hunting regs....it's there...

I've heard that:

It is unlawful to:

5. set out, use or emply any of the following items for the purpose of hunting any wildlife:
* recorded wildlife calls or sounds, or an electrically operated calling device,

But hey, don't take it from me - page 16 of the 2006 Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations. Trust me, it's good reading.

:( CRAP, reread the regs, the answer is indeed no for ANY wildlife:mad: . Should have looked there in the first place instead of asking on a GOSSIP forum:redface: .

Savage17hmr: not being allowed to use electronic calls is not such a bad thing. I don't hunt coyotes, but I do call them, or at least I'm working on it. Trust me, it's a lot of fun, and you'll just feel that much better when you succeed with a reed call. I use a Primos mini mag howler, I'm getting better at it all the time and the bonus is that it gives me reason to get out. Enjoy.

I do use a hand caller, jackrabbit distress, which I just called my first yote in (pics up soon in pic thread). I was just thinking of making my own to try out. I'll go back in the corner now...sit, sulk and think of my wrong ways...

Don't be so hard on yourself. Many years ago, I lost my hunting privileges for one year and paid a fine for guess what?...a coyote offence. They had backed coyote opening by one month and I relied on my previous years of knowledge. But to every sad story, there's an upside, I became really good friend with the officer that charged me.
