Does anyone here put electrical tape over the end of their muzzle when hunting to keep debris out of the barrel? I have seen a few pics in hunting mags and am curious if this is a standard practice.

Also, if so, does it cause any safety or accuracy concerns?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Works great and saves you worrying about debris in your barrel when you need to shoot.

I was skeptical about it at first, so tried it at the range by taping the barrel, firing a shot, firing a second shot with all tape removed, then a third shot with barrel taped again etc etc... No change in impact, gun shot exactly the same group (approx. 5/8" with 5 shots) as before and into the same POI.

Cheap insurance to avoid blowing up your rifle especially in snowy and wet hunting conditions.

I have been taping the end of my barrel with electrical tape for 40 years. Have no count of animals that have fallen when the tape was broken!! Nowadays I am using some of the fancy colored [red, green or yellow] electrical tapes available, since it is easier to see at a glance whether I taped it or not. Has absolutely NO effect on the bullet at all, is not a danger to your barrel, and gives mucho peace of mind, knowing there is not some foreign matter in that barrel. As has been said, good quality tapes stick best in the cold. Regards, Eagleye.

I do and so do many folks that I shoot and hunt with. I think the pressure from the shot blows the tape off prior to the bullet reaching it. I have never experienced accuracy issues by doing it.

BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT, EVER USE BLUE ELECTRICAL TAPE! ;) :D
