Electrical tape over end of muzzle?

The blue tape thing is a reference to longstanding debate on another forum that has kind of evolved into a humorous thing. The original assertion was that deer could more readily pick out blue over other colors of the rainbow thereby making it a less desirable color to use for outdoor gear, clothing, etc.

Thanks for the explanation. I was a bit curious...

Would it be the same situation with a shotgun? I'm suspecting that the same principles would apply. I live on a ranch in the mountains and usually carry a Marine Magnum when I'm out-and-about.

I normally tape the muzzle of my 590. As with a rifle, the air in the barrel is compressed as the slug or shot column moves towards it and the tape fails and is clear of the muzzle by the time the slug or shot column gets there. With a 12 gauge open choke gun, you might have to take care to ensure the entire muzzle is covered, and I make a few wraps of tape around the barrel behind the front sight and one around the muzzle to ensure it stays in place.

If your hunting style allows the survival of saran wrap, condoms, balloons, finger cots etc. on the end of your barrel, why bother?

Not sure what you mean by hunting style and the survival of these moisture preventers...
I use this to keep drops of water, or snow out of my barrel. It is not always possible to carry the rifle upside down with the barrel horizontal to prevent water ingress and the scope protected under my arm.

Those are the times when the saran wrap keeps crap out of my muzzle.
I really try to keep from jamming, or scraping the muzzle against or into anything, so the cover material does not get torn easily nor often.
