Has anyone used this method to remove rust from a firearm? I recently aquired a couple of vintage shotguns that were "barn guns" and would like to remove rust in an easy manor. If the blueing would come off it would be a bonus as i plan to redo them both for gifts to freinds and family, but i cant see it happening. Would this harm the steel in the barrels? I plan on dissmantleing them, taking the springs out and other "possible sensitive" parts before doing this. The inner barrels are in great shape and came perfect with some fine steel wool, unravelled out of the bun, and respooled in a peice of threaded rod, with some gun oil , then fastened on a drill. (a makeshift hone), lol.BTW, they are single shots.
Another method i've heard of is to use C.L.R.
Any suggestions??? :sniper:

Well you spoke nothing of coating, juts removal.
So...

A 50/50 mix of Muriatic acid and water works extremely well to remove rust(black oxide, iron oxide),i use that method prior to parkerizing

Yup, done it. I made a dip tank out of cardboard lined with plastic sheet long enough to dunk my barreled receiver. Made a strong solution of water and dish washer crystals as the electrolyte. Used a long steel rod as cathode (+) and gun was anode (-). Laid the rod right beside gun in the solution.
Hooked it up to my 12v battery charger and let it run overnight. All the rust melted into black slime that washed off to reveal a nice grey patina.
Is cheap, easy and works so well, you won't believe it!
