This week for 14.99....comes with an extra battery...Bought one on sale last year at Canadian Tire, and I have to say that it works great...As accurate as the more expensive ones, and haven`t had any problems in its` function.....Uses LR44 batteries that cost 4 bucks apiece....

Great, I was waiting for them to go on sale so I could get another as a backup. Also, I left my caliper on when I went away and the battery is dead now :(.

They are bad for killing batteries but still an awesome deal for what you pay. When I was in school for industrial mechanics I measured a bunch of stuff with my cheap CT caliper and my instructor's $200 Starrett and they both read the same every time.

I usually buy the $5 Radio Shack batts, but for the extra $2, you get a 3 yr warranty good for 2 replacements. So 3 batteries for $7 and you HOPE they're better quality than dollar store but who knows for sure...

I do this too with non-standard batteries (thermometer, cordless phone, etc). Every 1st of Dec, all the batts come out and gets swapped out. No receipt and no questions.

I was even more pumped to find this vernier micrometer in the clearance bin at my local industrial sales store with no box for $10!

It's just a cheap spare to keep in my toolbox, but it measured perfect on my 1" standard from my main set:

Bought the same one at can tire about a year ago, and the only complaint so far is the battery life, which seems to be about 3 months!! Measures the same as the mitutoyo calipers i have at work, so i can't complain too much

They're what I use :)

To try to keep battery life as long as I can, as soon as I am done measuring something, I close it, tighten the little set screw on the right hand side a bit and then turn it off, to make sure the jaws don't move .0001 or something and turn it on again.

A related development (cheap and works!)

MTM is marketing a small electronic scale, sells for about $40 - (yes forty) works like a hot damn and is pretty darned accurate. Handy thing to have at a price that won't eat your wallet. Good weight range too.

Is that the one that says accurate to + or - 1 grain?

If it is, I read that and figured not to use it for powder.

Huh, when they said "stop that or you'll go blind" I shoulda been listening. Point one eh? Okay, I'll bite...a $40 electronic scale sounds great.

They have em at SIR...That's where I misread the advert.
