Have considered purchasing an electronic caller...either compucaller III or Fox Pro - Fury...anyone familiar with these or other electronic calls that are worthy of good calling. How about the cheaper ones...any suggestions.

I have had the spitfire (foxpro) for a couple of seasons,no complaints the remote works well and the volume is good. There are not a lot of bells and whistles on it,it has 24 sounds and can be added on to through the foxpro sight, but as far as I am concerned thats 23 sounds to many .Turn on the jack rabbit in distress and they will come.

FoxPro FX3. Remote works out to 300 yards. Only issue is with the Ni Meth hyd. batteries as they die in extreme cold. I have several battery trays and change them out between stands to remidy this problem. FX3 has been replace with a new name and more features.

My recommendation is to ignore the hight tech complications of electronic callers, and just get a couple of mouth blown calls. Cheaper, easy to carry, and they work just as well according to my admittedly limited experience with electronic calls.

KISS.

I've got a Foxpro Prairie Blaster and I love the thing. Ya it's kinda bulky and expensive on D cell batteries but I don't care about that. Even when I'm not predator hunting I'll sit on the porch of the camp and just call animals and birds in just for fun without hunting. I've called turkey, crows, woodpeckers and even hawks right to the tree's 10 feet off the porch and stare at the decoy for an hour!

True. I hand called coyotes for most of my life. Very effective but IMO electronic callers have them beat. My FX3 weighs in three pounds and is smaller than a six pack of canned beer.

I first realzed this about seven years ago when I placed my then new FX3 on a bale about 100 yards distant. A pair of yotes appeared and were both focused intensely on the source of the sound. For once it was some location other than me! Shot them both before they knew what was up.

With this said there are times when dogs will only respond to hand calling, others when they only commit to electronics and everything in between.

Also I will never leave home without a couple hand calls when chasing dogs in case the gadget fails me... which has not really happened yet:)
