Electronic calls for moose

Moose are the easiest animal for a human to imitate, and still people want to use electronic gadgets. Kinda sad. How about learning some skills? Listen to some recordings of calling moose, and do it yourself. It is not difficult to learn and is much more versatile than pre-recorded calls. And more satisfying when you call one in.

Quite capable of doing both. The e-caller is just convenience - the modern equivalent of the apple juice can and the wet shoestring, rolled birch bark, your own hands, etc. Just as the telescopic sight and GPS are modern equivalents of the iron sights and paper map/compass (and a host of other comparisons). If the old method of calling is just as good, in terms of effectiveness and functionality, as the e-caller, there certainly aren't any 'fair chase' issues.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but what to you use for raking? If I am hunting via canoe I use the paddle, sometimes the axe handle.

I too use a canoe paddle when I'm using the canoe, when I'm in the bush I just find a good sized branch to rake and beat the trees with.
I don't want to carry anything I can't do without anymore. I call by voice, and use the wind to my favor as much as possible.

I've seen a tv show where they used an empty plastic jug with the bottom cut off it, taped to a tree branch claimed it was more effective then just a branch

Except it is you that would be missing out... both in learning some bushcraft and in the direct and intimate connection with wildlife and bringing them in to close range... flipping a switch and praying your batteries don't die is not quite the same thing.

Not missing out on anything. I know how to call moose without the e-caller. And so there is no need to pray about dead batteries. I usually bring the e-caller along because there will be opportunities for predator hunting on the same trip, but with a few moose sounds available, it becomes a more versatile tool.

Last Fall where I was hunting there was a clown with a fox pro....he had it at max volume ALL morning....the cow call was real but far too loud to be considered natural. It is a dead give away to animals....and they won't respond.

When I left the area I parked on road and I could hear him from 5 kms away....!!!!!

Moose have 20x the hearing capacity as us, IF it's loud to us imagine what a Moose thinks?

I have noticed Moose are starting to become educated like Elk.

Over calling, especially with an e-caller dialed to 11, can certainly be counter-productive.
