Electronic game calls

Hi, I've been looking around at some of the electronic game calls. Are they mostly overpriced bluetooth speakers, or there is some special engineering that went into these?

Would it work if I use a normal bluetooth speaker to play the game call? What kind of power does it need to have in order to be effective?
 
I believe you are right (glorified bluetooth speakers), no matter what quality of the speaker, it'll never be equal to a proper 18" moose calling cone. No way.

I'd personnally try to learn to call the good old fashion way. Yup, it's more work.

Lastly: The quality of the sounds is king if you ask me in an electronic call. You could just play wav files found on the internet with your smartphone and bluetooth speaker. But the sounds I've found on the internet weren't even of the right animal sometimes (moose sounds that didn't even remotely sound like a moose).

I am presently trying to make my mind on a call for coyotes. but for moose, I agree electronic calls are useless. and to be honest, in 40 years the best long range moose call I ever seen is a chain saw. I have no idea haw it sounds for them miles away, but every time we used it, a moose is there within a few days
 
While electronic calls can work well, so can cheaper mouth blown calls of many kinds. My recommendation is to learn to call with a couple of mouth blown devices, and wait until you know you want to use electronic help before spending the money. You may well find that you just don't need to spend very much to have a very good and successful time calling game.
 
Are you specifically looking for predator Ecaller or other big game...check your regs in alberta big game huntingvwith ecaller is a no go. For predator I've been successful with a water proof bluetooth and phone app, fox pro, lucky duck, eotech.....good old mouth blown reed or diaphragm calls work great too.
 
A buddy tried the bluetooth speaker with phone just for s**ts and it sounded like crap compared to a good quality e-caller. Then again the low end fox pro's are just as bad. I have the original prairie blaster and while sound quality is great, lugging it around with 8 D batteries in it is a PITA.

I also got angry at the amount of money I was spending on AA batteries. My Western Rivers caller uses 6 AA batteries and usually runs for under 2 hours at full blast before going dead,weather dependant. A cold morning and I get maybe a hour of good calls. I also found that the range I was getting from remote to speaker was not very far, maybe 10 yards.

I made a 3D printed battery adapter for the many 18v Makita batteries I have around the shop. I then wired in a adjustable potentiometer to knock the volts down to 9v for my speaker. I can now call for 6h+, and my range tripled.

I made about a dozen and the guys at work snapped them up quickly, you can use them to run your 12v fish finders and other toys.

I might have a extra one kicking around, if interested.

I looked into them years ago. Best sounds going but a lot of problems with remote range. Also if I can't listen and download new sounds from the website, I'm not interested, unless that is something that's been rectified recently.
 
Electronic Calls work too good....that's why they are banned in most places.

Nothing beats the old Johnny Stewart cassettes, a stereo, and a speaker ....Moose mating in swamp.

There is a few mistakes guys make.

Calling too often and calling too loud.

On a calm frosty sept morning If your call carries 1 or 2 miles and your buddies can hear it.....then expect a Moose to hear it at 3 or 4 times that distance.

Moose are VERY rarely ever that loud or vocal especially if wolves frequent the area.

You actually dont even need to cow call to call a moose.

They will come to water splashing, raking, snapping/popping brush.

Many times in Opening week for Rifle elk I have had Bull moose grunt at me IF I pop brush or rake trees.

Your probably best just getting a ##### bark horn and calling old fashioned way.
 
I intend to call black bear with distressed rabbit noise. Any tips for that? We don't have the luxury of baiting.

I tried the old fashion way of manual calls but didn't seem to be too effective.
 
Ive used a FoxPro shockwave for the past 5 years or so....its paid for itself 100's of times over and over in furs. Nice thing about the Foxpro is I mix my sounds together (magpies with distressed pups or fox pups and titmouse) when playing creating some really unique sounds as well as use foxfade. Foxpros remote is bullet proof as well. Nothing wrong with hand calls either, probably the most satisfying way of predator hunting, some guys I know get 100 plus a season with them here is sask.

First I would inquire on the regs about using E calls for bears as I'm not sure of anywhere that allows the use of them for bears. From what I have heard from folks who tried it and videos on the subject calling bears is pretty hit and miss at the best of times. If your still stuck on the E call the foxpro's with a tx1000 remote are worth the money. With many options to mix, blend and control sounds with amazing clarity and remote range.

What makes you think electronic calls will be more effective? If they don't hear you, they will not come. If they hear you, they may still not come. I think that in any given area, there are likely not many bears to call. Are you sure there are bears that can hear you but won't respond to the sounds?
 
I've tried my foxpro on lots of bears that I could watch react to it and believe me when I say you're better off getting some attractant smell stuff like Moultrie Bear Magnet Liquid Bear Attractant which is not considered "bait" (at least here in BC) than trying a call. Out of maybe 20-25 attempts I got 1 bear to come in and that was very lackadaisical at best, it was more a "maybe I'll head that way" than a "holy crap the dinner bell" like coyotes react. I tried a Licorice smelling one my friend gave me to try out and it was amazing stuff, bears tore the stump apart that I put it on, too bad I don't hunt bears, lol.

I was not sure if I'm using my manual calls correctly. TBH it sounded nothing like when the pros are using it, it also takes a lot of effort to use.

That's interesting. I was unable to find any reference to E call in the hunting regulation. I'll be sure to give a call to the MNR Ontario. If it's not illegal then I can look into foxpro.

Quite honestly sounding like the "pros" is less important than sounding like something dieing. If your finding it takes a lot of effort then you either have a bad handcalls or are blowing too hard.
