electronic muffs?

MSA Sordin supreme pro X's are highly regarded, I know I like mine. They have a N.r.r of iirc 18, so I wear plugs or surefires when shooting anything that is very loud. the Peltors are supposed to be good as well but i do not like the battery compartment sticking out at the bottom.

You are welcome to try my Supreme pro X's with gel cups on Sunday if you want. The gel cups are worth it if you are wearing your eye pro like you should.

There you go - 2 top notch muffs with the gel cups on there!

See, all thanks to you for letting us try your NEA :D

Always recommend the Surefire EP4s underneath. Allows you to hear still, and getting a good cheek weld on an AR stock tends to dislodge the muffs slightly. You WANT that muff on with plugs underneath, especially when you come around to shooting my AR with the comp on......

Which one are good? Which ones are the best? I have 2 pairs, both suck.

I need some that don't suck. :)

I like my Peltor Sporttacs.

Auto shut off, audio input - good sound quality in and keeps the loud stuff out.
Hygene kits available for after a few months of sweat on the range builds up. Not overly expensive.

Have you checked the fit of your muffs with your shooting glasses on?
Some peoples' head shapes combined with some brands of glasses cause the muffs to not seal around your ears
(ie. Me + Oakley M Frames does not work :( - found out the expensive way.)

Thanks! One pair from Cabelas are kind of clunky and big. I have a set of Remington ones that are comfortable enough, but both sets have crappy static at times and feedback that drives me nuts! I'm going to Seattle next week, and will be looking for some in the US.

SRS tactical above(site sponsor) has the basic supreme series for $155 and are well worth the money.

Howard Leight - Impact Sport. Best "bang" for the buck.

x2. if they stop, buy another pair. i had mine 2 years, regular use. have auto shut off saves batteries as well.

NRR is 22, which is why i went with them. higher priced ones offer 18 or marginally better NRR.

Supreme PRO3X and you are there. With the gel seal they fit perfectly around my shooting glasses. They cost but you did say you wanted the best.

Take Care

I took a look at all of those. Do they all come with the intergral communications? I don't think I would ever use that.

I'm looking for reliable noise cancellation, good sound quality during quiet times and comfort. :)

I have no problem paying $200. $300 would start to mmake me uncomfortable.

Can you talk with them under constant gunfire? like at an indoor range? Do they cut out completely when it's loud? or do they only cut out the loud noises?

Everyone has an opinion.

I've got Pro Ears Gold which are going on 4 years old and they still work awesome. They are a bit bulky though and the N size batteries are annoying as they seem to be more expensive than AA or AAA.

I just got a pair of Sordin ProX ($265) and they're great. Comfortable, light, no issues. The amplification is different sounding than the Pro Ears that I was used to, but after a bit, no issues there either.

Amplify low level noise per volume control and clip loud noises.

Wrong. Sordins do not clip, they attenuate. Peltors clip, meaning they temporarily block the high dB sound from entering. The Sordins attenuate, which means they take the incoming dB and reduce it to a safe level before it enters your ear. Either way, quality electronic ear pro are worth the coin if you shoot a lot. The ability to connect comms is something you may never use but its nice to have. A buddy recently was doing some excavation work at his acreage and wore his Sordins linked to a two way radio and the rest of the help.

Those NRR's are very low. With the average DB levels for most firearms around 155 that puts you at a 133-135 DB range for your ears which is big time damage territory.

I use passive Howard Leights which have a NRR of 30 which would be expoentially quieter than NRR of 22 ( a 3 db difference is TWICE the sound pressure) and I also use ear plugs and even then from what I read, hearing loss can/will occur.

What we really need are supressors plus hearing protection to eliminate the risk....
