Electronic powder dispensers

That's a good price! How much did it cost to ship to you with brokerage and shipping charge in total?

I just ordered an RCBS Chargemaster Combo from Brownell's for $329 minus $50 using coupon code for $50 off over $300, then will apply for the $50 RCBs rebate (I bought a couple of other RCBS items I needed to keep the total invoice just over $300 US before taxes).

So my final effective price should be US $229. Shipping less than $20 to a warehouse just over the border (love the Kinek service), then declare it at the border and pay HST or pick up during my next multi-day US trip and bring in under my tax-free exemption.

The Brownell's coupon code is good to Aug 10 and they had stock when I ordered today.

My understanding is no export restrictions under ITAR or Dept of Commerce on this item, so hopefully my order should go through without a hitch.

I'll post an update if there's an issue...

Anyone who's sitting on the fence and hasn't used their $50 RCBS rebate this year (limited to 1/year I believe)...$229 is way too tempting for me, so I succumbed!

Regards,
Peter

Threads like this always put me back on the fence regarding electronic throwers. I just use a Lee perfect measure, it's a bit of a pain to set up, but once I do I throw charges very quickly, even with checking the weight every 5th charge. I would say the accuracy on average is in the 0.2gn range, more than acceptable for the general plinking ammo I make, and I hit things I point at past 300yd, so I don't see how 0.1gn abilities will make shooting any better for me.

Electronic throwers are a little pricey, and by most accounts, slow. But, they do seem conveneint and easy... how do you reprogram one to make it faster? is that the type of work that would void a warranty? Also, almost all the powders I use are flake and stick.

Well, with a straw and a couple of adjustments, I actually got 99 of 100 chagres to work today from my HDY. Man, pisses me off that HDY doesn't mention anything about adjustments in the "manual' that comes with the unit. And the straw thing? If a 1 cent piece of plastic can make such a big difference, then either they have designed it wrong, or they should fess up and tell you to go get some straws. Grrrr

I have the Hornady one. It's a good dispenser, but depending on the powder you use the speed has tone adjusted. When I use CFE 223 I have to turn the dispensing speed way down. Otherwise I am very happy with it.

Did a similar mod to the unit and got 99 of 100 with Varget and that's good by my standards and the one failure was my fault bumping the unit.

Any issues with dispensing IMR 4350 on any of the units?

I use varget, h4895, h4350, imr4350, have used blc-2, and h335. The ball powders bounce all over the place and the stick powders hang up a little. The stick powders are a lot more consistent after the straw mod. I can't imagine loading without one. In fact I loaded some trail boss loads and what a joke. I was missing the use of the charge master

sigh .. Okay you sold me. Brownells had a sale and rebate so I ordered the RCBS unit... i keep thinking - okay that s it Im finished spending money on things I really dont need

RCBS has a 1 year warranty. Most electric powder dispensers are 1 year warranty.
They are all made in china. Some may be assembled out of china but the components are made in china.
My RCBS Chargemaster lasted 8 years. Money well spent, because I'm ordering a new one. Just don't know where from.
Watch for all the hidden taxes and shipping and handling fees from the US. Canada border services now tacks on a handling fee. It is still cheaper out of the states but not as much of a smoking deal it first appears. I don't understand how it can sell for $200 less on a $489 dollar item, down south.

I have a chargemaster for a few years and ive noticed the scale is a little slow when measuring very fine differences in powder. I use mostly cfe223 wich is very fine grained. The scale will trickle le last amounts but the scale wont budge for at least 4 seconds. Then sometimes it moves and sometimes not. I can add 5 individual specks of powder manually and see no weight difference or it can go way over. Accuracy for me is now about +/- .8gr. When measured against my gempro. Using fixed calibration weights for tests i trust the gempro more than the rcbs scale

Because of this and my ocd like obsession with precision i only use it for premetering and then manually verify and fix on a gempro250. Now that is a nice scale
Cheap fast accurate and repeatable. For the record the rest of the chargemaster is very nice.
